Best cinematic shoot-out

If you've seen The WIld Bunch, you'd have to put it at the top. It's the standard-bearer.

Hard Boiled is near the top as well.

The final shootout in the hotel in The Getaway (the Steve McQueen version) is pretty good.

Last Man Standing is a poor remake of FIstful of Dollars, but the shootout scene near the end is pretty incredible as well.

I agree with all the previous multiple mentions but had to add:

Blackhawk Down when the two Delta snipers drop in for the helicopter pilot.

Gotta be Heat or maybe the Magnificent Seven.

Although... you gotta through the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan in there somewhere.

1. The Wild Bunch: All others are copies of some form. Truly amazing for its time and is still arguably the best.

2. Heat

3. Scarface: but the lasty two in no particulat order.

IMO: War movies do not count otherwise I might put the Apocolypse Now cavalry scene when the helicopters smoke the village.

I'll echo the OP's suggestion of L.A. Confidential. I've always thought that it was the most realistic shootout.

I also love Unforgiven, one of my favorite movie endings ever.
"I don't deserve this. To die like this. I was building a house."
"Deserve's got nuthin' to do with it."
"See you in hell, William Munny."
"Yeah".
BOOM!
