When I was in school I loved Mad Dog's Burgers. I also like Beans along with GM Steakhouse. The only place that I have eaten at lately for a burger is Huts which is very good. Any other suggestions?

Here are my favorites:

In Dallas: Snuffers and Chips with CHips being the best.
In Houston: Southwells, Charlie's, and CLiffs with SOuthwell's being the best although none compare with Chips in Dallas.

Chains: Jack in the Box - Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger is excellent. McDonald;'s QuarterPounderw with Cheese is good. Whataburger is great as well.

By the way...I have never had a bad hamburger so any and all suggestions are welcome for good places for burgers.

In Dallas near SMU, my fav was Feed Bag.

Austin has a bunch. Huts, GM, Players, Babes.

I always liked Chili's.

I live in NYC and they think the burgers are good up here. But people don't really eat them that often...the sandwich rules up here (as it should as NYC has incredible cold cuts...cheap stuff). NYC burgers are always fried, and they are often too thick. Also, they often serve them with Gray Poupon (sp?). Burgers should be served with yellow musturd or deli (brown) musturd. I love burgers cooked over a grill.

I have a freind that moved out of the city. He said one of the main reasons was so he could cook his own burgers on the grill. I am not kidding.

I have to agree with you, I love burgers.

How can you mention McDonald's as having a good burger. Yes they have amazing fries, but their burgers taste like ***. For my money, the best fast food burger is Burger King. That flame broiled goodness always makes my mouth water.

You guys need to go to Crown & Anchor Pub and get their Bacon, Mushroom, Jalapeno Burger Basket. That **** is friggin unbelievable. Their french fries are the best in town, IMO.

Lankford Grocery in Houston has a great burger, and their daily specials are usually pretty good. The place is a total hole in the wall, but worth the trip.

The Boulevard on Far West has pretty good burgers-- 1/3 lb. with those buns that you can't get anywhere else. Two for one every Monday and Saturday. The only thing they don't have that would be sweet is a chili-cheeseburger!

For the price and what you get, it's impossible to top the Crown and Anchor! And nobody's mentioned CASINO EL CAMINO on Sixth Street. Their burgers and hand-cut fries are freakin' great!! Try the Buffalo Burger with Cheddar! If you haven't eaten there before, you're missing out!

I've been there a few times. If you can get around the whole punk setting, you can occassionaly have a good burger there. The first time I went to Casino, it was really good, but the past few times I've been it's been bad. They do have huge burgers though.

Let's be real honest here. There isn't much of a difference as far as quality when you're talking fast food. I love fast food, but come on, they're all about the same. I love burger king, but it's a fact that they microwave their burgers. Wendy's is just about the only exception. If you're gonna give me a square patty, at least give me a bun that matches. Not to mention the patties are thinner than the cheese. Oh well.

For Houston, I will add :

Lucky Burger (Richmond @ Mandell)
Otto's (Memorial near Wescott)
Roznovsky's (T.C. Jester @ 34th)
Someburger (11th @ Studewood)

Roznovsky's is owned by a former UT All-American baseball player.

Amateurs.

The best in Austin, no contest, is Mike's Pub on 7th Street. Just ask Earl Campbell if you don't believe me...

Runner-up goes to Dirty's on the Drag.

Uhhh....Hello?

Has anyone here had a double cheese burger from the Crown and Anchor Pub? There is none greater...or greesyer(is that a word).

Bubba's Burger Shack at West Park and 610 is Houston is a close second, but that is only because they don't have those kick *** fries that C&A has.

In Austin, the Buffalo burger w/bleu cheese and hot wing sauce from Casino is the best in town.
Best burger in Texas can be found at Kinkaid's Drug Store in Ft. Worth. Period. Has won national honors multiple times over the last twenty-odd years.

I wouldn't eat at Burger Tex.

From last week's Food for Thought:
Finally, the inspector found a burger at Burger Tex II that wasn't cooked well enough. The Guadalupe location's original 57 also included:

Deductions for badly spoiled food
And raw meat patties touching sliced cheese.

Burger Tex II scored an 88 on the re-inspection.

Leftie,
I'm from Arlington and my dad used to take me over to Kincaid's all the time--awesome burgers! I was trying to remember the name the other night but couldn't--not to be missed!

Al's on North Collins was even better when I was growing up-then Al's land got bought for development. He reopened quite a while later, but his new location never tasted quite as good as his original little burger joint did. I don't know if the new one is still around.

in Dallas I like Purdy's on Beltline and Inwood. And in Austin either Houston's or Fudruckers (yes, I know its a chain, its still damn good)

I'll vote for a double meat Flame Burger with cheese from the Holiday House on Exposition. Not on the posted menu, but they will make it. Had one today.

Second choice--Cheeseburger at Dirty Martin's. Best consumed while sitting at the counter, so you can watch the burgers being fried. Get a limeaide with it.

in austin--airport haven down the road from highland mall
in new braunfels- freiheit country store
in san antonio- chris madrid's on blanco

The Three I's...

Thanks for the info, but do folks actually pay attention when a burger joint (i.e. Dirty's) is cited by the health department...?

C&A is good, but it's not much of a patty. Posse has better burgers, believe it or not. Also, the Tavern (if you get it rare/medium rare) makes a delcious burger.

any cheeseburger has to have Cheddar to be considered a real cheeseburger.

the food at the tavern should be served to the prisoners at Guantanamo. that place is nasty.

they have GT, though.
