Best BBQ in Texas?

ate at maurice's today. pretty dang solid cue. brisket had a nice crust (not really a smoke ring...pretty well done all the way through, but very tender, moist and tasty). the sausage was great...just the way i like it. the hot sauce is excellent...i haven't had anything like it and i couldn't quite pinpoint what was in it. except for the cobbler (which was awesome...with more nutmeg than usual, which i liked), the sides weren't that great. the potato salad had too much mayo for my taste, and also had too much of a pimiento flavor. the beans were standard...they were good, but didn't stand out. the sweet tea was lipton/nestea out of the fountain, which is a big no-no in my book. i hate that stuff. next time i'll get a DP.

overall, i still prefer schoepf's in that area...i like the pepper crust they put on everything and i still prefer their sauce, but i will most certainly make many happy returns to maurice's. thanks for the heads up!

probably. it's in Harker heights now, in between nolanville and killeen.

it's now on "Old 190", which is Bus. Rt. 190, actually.

Thanks, Scott. I grew up in Killeen. "Ol" Maurice was an uncle to one of my teamates at Rancier Jr. High. It was then (late 60's) the only cue place in town (Simmonsville being in Killeen proper).

I'll need to get back up there.

As far as Houston BBQ goes I really like Houston BBQ Company. It is on Eldridge. Their ribs, brisket and sausage are great.
