Best Bank in Austin?

I don't know if there's one in your area, but Frost Bank is awesome IMO. I have banked at B of A, Bank One, and Wells FArgo, and Frost is far better as far as customer service and taking care of account problems goes.

I work at Frost and we are awesome. Very prevalent in San Antonio and a few in Houston and in Austin. Starting to gain some ground in both cities. Very good bank with a good balance sheet.
 
Frost Bank is coming out with a free checking in about 6 or less months. Not sure on the exact time frame. Keep your eyes open because it will be here.

go to Guaranty Bank. I was with them when I was a student and they were really nice to me. Since then, I have several accounts with them including my business accounts and they have been fantastic. They always take great care of me and treat me very well.

Call the shoal creek branch 512-454-9623. The Branch Manager is a woman named Terri Galindo and she is very nice, but very professional.
 
depends on what you want from a bank.

I need a place where I have an ATM nearby and near places I go across the state. I need to be able to Direct Deposit my money and get it out when i need it. I use Wells Fargo for this. I don't have any customer service problems with them b/c I never actually talk to a real live person.

For my savings and loan needs, I use one of the three credit unions i'm a member of. But all the ATMs are too inconvient for me to use them for checking.
 
I use Compass and UFCU ... Compass is a better deal, but I use UFCU as a second account for savings, etc.

Convenience-wise, for you both are good - Compass is at Wm Cannon and Manchaca, and there's a new UFCU opening at Brodie and Slaughter in the next month or so.

I agree with most .. Wells Fargo bites.
 
Out of curiosity, what is your problem with BoA? I've used them for years, and have never had a problem. Checking is free with direct deposit. I pay all of my bills online from their website, for free. I can check my statement, transfer balances, and make minor changes to my account online whenever I want, for free. Their ATMs are everywhere.

I've had a few instances when I've needed to talk to a person. They've always been very helpful and nice. When my wallet was stolen and some lowlife used my check card, they immediately credited my account and started a fraud investigation. Within a month, I was notified in writing that the investigation was complete and that the credit was permanent.

I've needed to go to the bank to make account changes a couple of times. In both instances, everything was handled flawlessly.

I'm not looking to start a pissing match over where to do your banking, but I can't complain at all about BoA.
 
My employer stopped doing direct deposit (I have no idea why, still baffles me), so I have to deposit at least twice a month. BOA is charging me to do this...and it's just a little irritating.
 
That's a valid complaint. BoA does have checking accounts with fees that can screw you over if your needs don't fit into their categories. Finding the right account for your situation may be difficult. It sucks that your employer nixed the direct deposit. Good luck finding something.
