Per todays Houston Chronicle he has joined the Rice Coaching staff. Apparently the heir to the throne when Graham leaves.

Puma wise to study under WG while he can if succession is his plan post-retirement. Anyone's guess if he can get through to 18-21 yr. olds and extract performance. Should be interesting.

There are a couple of obstacles;

#1. He does not have a degree, he must finish his degree before he can become an assistant coach. Right now he will just be a Volunteer Assistant if he does not go back and play with the Astros..

#2. David Pierce the former Rice Owl Assistant-Head Coach at Sam Houston State- will be the front runner once Graham retires.

#3. Clay Van Hook was elevated from Volunteer Asst. Coach to Full time Asst. Coach on Graham coaching staff.

1. I think the plan is for him to get the degree while being a volunteer.

2. I also think that Pierce, who seems popular with the Rice people, would finish a very distant second in the race with Puma among Rice fans and decision makers.

3. As to the numbers, this scenario is probably at least two year away and people move on all the time.
