The problem was that Terry did not make that adjustment DURING the first half.
He is not a good coach for making adjustments during the flow of the game. My opinion, he is not the best choice for HC going forward and has already Demonstrated that. We have got to stop falling behind double digits in the first half almost every game. Make adjustments during the flow of the game, do not wait till half time. Terry is a good assistant coach but not as a head coach. That is his resume.

I honestly think that Terry believed our personnel just couldn't handle the adjustments because of how much more physicality it would require. And I don't necessarily disagree with that assessment, but it sends a bad/dumb message that we needed to commit the same mistake 5 times before calling a timeout.

I think it's time to put to rest the Beard vs Terry comparisons. Beard is gone and Terry now has the team at 20-5 and 1st in the Big XII with the season almost finished.

I think the conversation should shift to whether or not Terry deserves a contract as the head coach and if so how long.

Can he recruit elite talent? That's my biggest question.
 
He was one of Barnes' ace recruiters. He sure helped bring a lot of talent in during that era. I don't see why that ability should have necessarily diminished now that he is the head man.
 
Here we are toward the end of the season. Terry is 15-6 overall and 5-4 in his last nine. Its getting kind of iffy about this guy for me. This team has the talent to win the last two games, but here we are again hoping we at least split.

He started hot with a hot team and held the team together, but its his team now and If he finishes his last 11 games 6-5 or 5-6 with in my opinion the most talented team in the Big XII there's no way he is hired. He will have proven he is what his track record says he is which is a .500 coach incapable of making a team improve.

To be clear, I'm advocating nothing, just making the obvious observation.

Well said. This team is very talented down to the ninth or tenth man. Depth is as good or better than any team in this Conference. And that’s saying something.
 
Terry has been around a long time. There is a reason he was hired as an assistant coach. Hes been a head coach and his track record is what it is.

Brad Stevens took Butler to two consecutive national title games. He built a team from a mid tier conference into a legit title contender. Elite coaching shows itself regardless of conference or division. Terry has never shown it.

He is, however, a leader and a role model and Im glad he is here. We needed him and he has done admirally given the circumstances.

Excellent post based on facts! He was good for Barnes and he was good for beard. He is just not an elite level head coach. He will get his chance with season is over to interview just like some others. Job is not and should not be his by default. He may end up with it but Texas owes itself the search process.

Sometimes I think there are just too many things pulling on coaches here. If all they have to do is prep and coach, they'd be rock stars. But the LHN appearances, interviews, big cigars, etc. It's too much.

At practice, Mack spent most of his time with the big cigars hanging around. He did very little coaching at practice. A lot more CEO stuff.

We keep hiring people we think are really good coaches and then don't give them time to coach.

By the way, I spent a lot of time with Akers on the sidelines during practice. He had a lot of interesting/funny stories. But when a play was happening, he'd go quiet, then he'd pick up right where he was afterwards.

Marquette's three best players are guards who combine for 50% from the field and 37% from 3. One was recruited by Shaka, the other two come from Clemson and George Mason.

I addressed this on another thread, but Shaka needed the type of support a basketball school could provide. At Texas, he was constantly putting out fires emanating from the one-and-done crew, and hoping we wouldn't be declared ineligible for any of those issues. He's a good guy and a good coach, but Texas wasn't for him.
 
Horns11…..GREAT POST! We just can’t catch a break! I’m just soooooo frustrated. Having gone to the last great moment in Texas Basketball at Final 4 in New Orleans, we catch the best SYRACUSE team of all time! Geez!

Texas is not playing well disciplined basketball on either end of the court. So inconsistent. They may come back and beat KU this Saturday. So What. They will not go far in the tournament. Too bad. This is a very talented bunch.
 
Texas lost its scrappiness when its head coach, who was known for being, err, scrappy, was fired.
 
I love college sports and supporting the young men and women. But this is a train wreck.
1. Mens BB is not playing for Coach Terry. It is his job to lose and they are doing a great job in making sure he cannot even be in the conversation. There is too much talent on that floor to produce these results.
2. I was talking to a booster from an SEC school and that person told me, Texas cannot recruit the inner city players the way that the SEC and the NE and Big cities can. Why would they come here. You can get one player who is a one and done and run the team through that player. But you cannot get the numbers. Your team has to be filled out with 3-4 year players from prep schools. See what Barnes has done at Tenn. Shaka is going to be better at Marquette than here. Beard was so promising on recruiting and coaching. A major university cannot invest in someone tied to relationship abuse. Got to find someone who can succeed with our limits.
