BCG Gone

They are going to have to offer Billy the Kid rock star money or they arent going to get anybody who can handle that job.

As for BCG, if you are going to be a jerk you better win. Big. Now.

Don't shoot the messenger, but the UK boards think they will go after Capel (maybe), Barnes (doubtful but possible), Billy D (highly unlikely) or Calipari (no way in Hades).

Donovan will go; didnt he want the job badly lst go around?

So.. if he never signed his contract.. then...

Under Kentucky law, I wonder if he is a year to year employee.. and UK doesn't have to pay him the balance of this contract?

Did ole Billy Clyde just leave 5 years at $2.3Mill per on the table???

Whoop whoop....

You can take the boy out of aggy but....

Kentucky basketball = Alabama football.

Both schools have crazy boosters with unrealistic expectations to the point top level coaches won't go there unless there's a huge amount of money on the table. It's either that or B listers.

Wouldn't it be just like agricultural to give Turgeon his walking papers and hire Billy Clyde back if he so much as blew a kiss their way? Wonder if 'ol BCG is missing Wings 'N More these days?

I don't want BCG at Tech. He is a very good coach and recruiter ESPECIALLY if he is back in the state of Texas. I don't want him here coaching but I don't want him in the Big 12 either.

As I stated on the other thread, I think they'll go after Donovan again (he is the first one to publicly say he is fine with his current gig); Pitino will not go back there; which leaves Caliperi. Since his conference is a cakewalk every year such that he wins every game and still can't get a No. 1 Seed, he should jump at the chance to go to UK.

Dickie V. said that Bobby Knight should be a candidate and that Barnes is a target. He said Travis Ford is a default.

I like the above poster that said "nobody has ever left Texas on their own volition." Here, here.

Neither A&M or Texas will want to see him back in the Big XII. The guy built A&M basketball and could turn a down and out school into a contender, if the kids buy into it.

Billy Clyde was working under a Memorandum of Understanding.

THAT IS A CONTRACT! Just kills me to keep reading he didn't have a contract. What he didn't have was a LONG-TERM Contract.

Carry on.

He's a builder... I see some of Barnes in him, the Clemson Barnes (and the first year at Texas, before Eddie Reese got a hold of him).

Barnes obviously demands a conditioned team, and he works his teams hard, but he has learned that constantly demanding hard work can't translate into efficient game performance without some rest.

After his last year at Clemson (and before he came to Texas), a couple of players announced they were going to transfer. When Barnes left, the players stayed. Well, this is how Gillispie works his players (and in some respects, even harder, because I've heard/read that he didn't have shootarounds before games at UK... he had full-out practice).

He turned around those teams at UTEP and A&M with hard work of players, and it paid off. When he tried the same thing at UK, it didn't work because there was so much glad-handing required, and he just didn't do that kind of stuff, or at least do it well enough. But now it appears to be coming out that he worked the players like dogs. That stuff only lasts so long. At some point, you figure out that guys have bought in, and now they need something else (like, say, coaching).

He'll definitely get a job... I would guess Tech is a possibility, or some place close to Texas. I could foresee him going to Oklahoma State if Ford went to Kentucky, although I have no idea how the personal side fits in anywhere.

We will see. It is impossible to speculate on the legal ramifications of the Memo of Undertanding unless you have read it and were privy to the discussions regarding it.

I am sure there will be a lawsuit and a settlement at this some point. Ol' Billy Clyde won't be in the poor house.

Gillispie is damaged goods. His relationship devolved to non-communication with the AD's at A&M and UK. He is abusive to players, and the rebellion amongst player parents at UK is what finally did him in. He is a drunk, he got 1 if not 2 DWI's in Lexington, this being the reason he didnt sign the contract. Signing it would have given permament cause for UK to fire him. Which the AD believes he had anyway since he is saying he wont pay Gillispie the full buyout.
Guy is damaged goods I doubt even Tech would touch him at this point.
