Texas goes for it's first conference sweep since the opening conference series two years ago against OU in Norman.

Nathan Thornhill starts for the Horns against senior right hander Dillon (Hello) Newman for Baylor.

A win would put Texas in a first place virtual tie in the conference with OU who is playing out of conference this weekend. The Sooners are at 4-2 and a win would put Texas at 6-3.

Langford, playing second leads off for Baylor as he has all weekend against Thornhill.

A ground ball to second and the 4-3 put out opens the game for one away.

Brett Doe, the Bear shortstop stands in from the right hand side.
He drives one on two hops that Gurwitz picks backhanded and make the throw for defensive gem and two down.

Not this time as he flies out to left to retire the side in order.

Thornhill, who has had first inning troubles in the past has none today.

Texas comes to bat looking to break the scoring ice.

A breaking pitch that looked high was called strike three for one away.

Johnson bats second with one down.
He pops up over the mound and several Bears converge on it and finally it's the third baseman that makes the catch for two away.

Payton up bunt the first pitch to third and the third baseman throws it away at first and it's an error to let him reach first and then second as the throw got by the first baseman.

Barrera up has a chance to give Texas the lead with Payton in scoring position and two down.

He pops out to first as the Dodson, the first baseman hits the wall making the catch.

A threat, but nothing more and there nothing on the board after an inning of play in the finale.

Thornhill faces Duncan Wendel, playing third and leading off for Baylor in their half of the second.

The count is worked full before the change up fools him and he takes it for a K and out one.

Matt Menard, the catcher bats and has really struggle in this series as he has gone hitless.
He gets sawed off as much as you can with a metal bat and pops out foul to Thornhill, who makes the catch for two down.

Aaron Dodson, plays first and bats left handed is up.
He K's swinging to become the sixth straight Bear retired in order.

Texas comes to bat again in the second looking for a lead.
Tied at 0-0.

Shaw in right as the line-up seems to be becoming solidified leads off the Texas second batting lefty against Newman.

He works the count full and then takes a high fast ball to become the second base runner for Texas with the lead off walk.

Hinojosa looks to move him along with the bunt.
He deadens one down the right side and the pitcher fields and the 1-3 out is the sac bunt needed.

Shaw at second for Carter whos has taken over the DH role and been doing the job lately..
His slow roller to short is out two as Shaw goes to third.

Clemens bats needing the clutch hit to put Texas on top.
Shaw leads from third with two down.
Clemens bats lefty and walks on four pitches to put runners on the corners.

This prompts a visit by the Baylor pitching coach and now he returns to the dugout.

Gurwitz, who has settled in at third base bats with runners on in scoring position as has been a pattern lately.

The nine hole hitter for the Horns works the count full and this has been a good scoring count in this series for Texas.

He hits one high to left and that will not carry in these conditiions and it's caught to retire the side.

Texas threatens again, but again nothing is the result.

Two gone on a dank day in Austin tied at 0-0.

Thornhill, out for his third inning of work faces left fielder Darryn Sheppard leading off for Baylor.

The count runs full and a high pop goes in front of home plate and everyone looks skyward before Gurwitz makes the catch for one away.

West Tunnell is the Bear DH batting lefty with one down.
He becomes the first Baylor runner as he draws a walk.

Logan Brown, the centerfielder bats right with one down and one on in the nine hole slot.
He bunts one back to the mound and Thornhill goes to second, his throw one hop Hinojosa, but he digs it out for the put out.

Two down as Langford bats again at the top of the order.
Brown takes off and Barrera's throw is on the money and in time to nail him and retire the side.

Bottom of the third comes now and it's still 0-0.

Marlow brings the top of the order back again to face Newman in the Texas third.

His slicing drive to left center is caught as Brown the centerfielder lays out to make the diving catch just off the turf for one away.

Johnson gets a hold of one to left, but it just dies out there and it's two away.

Payton bats again looking to extend his consecutive on base streak as reaching on the error doesn't count.
He takes a walk and that counts to extend the streak to 72 games as he reaches first with two down.

Barrera is up and Payton is a stealing threat at first.
He grounds to short for a 6-4 force to retire the side.

Three innings gone now and no runs scored or hits collected for either team.

The fourth starts with Thornhill facing Langford leading off for Baylor as he was batting during the attempted steal.

He flies out to medium left for one away.

Doe up again lines the first hit of the game to right center and Shaw cuts it off, but Doe can run and makes second easily for a double.

The first Baylor threat of the game as Toth bats once more.
The lefty with the most Baylor hits in this series bats with a man in scoring position goes down swinging on the big outside change for two away.

Thorny looks to get out to inning by getting Wendel and does as Hinnojosa makes a charging play from short and the across the body throw gets him by a couple of steps to retire the side.

Bottom of the fourth is here with nada on the scoreboard.

Newman out for his fourth inning of work faces Shaw as Texas looks for it's first hit of the game.

He doesn't get it as he flies out to left for one away.

Hinojosa bats now he sends a can of corn to center for two away.

Carter bats trying to break up the perfect inning for Newman.
He K's swinging on a high change up to retire the side in order.

Four innings gone by in the third game of the series and still it's 0-0.

Thornhill out in the fifth faces Menard leading off and still hitless in this series.

The righty hitter chops one down to first and Clemens takes it to the bag 3U for the first out.

Dodson bats from the right side with one down.
A fly ball to right dies like all the rest today and Shaw squeezes it for two away.

Sheppard also flies to right with the same result to retire the side.

Halfway through this one and it's 0-0.

Newman faces Clemens as the Texas fifth starts.

He chops one down the third base line softly. Newman comes off the mound and makes a sliding grab. His throw is late and Clemens has the first Texas hit on a swinging bunt.

Gurwitz is up trying to bunt him over.
He gets it down and Clemens goes to second.

One away as Marlow steps in from the left side at the top of the Horn order with one down.

He fouls one down off his right ankle and that dog is barking as he tries to walk it off.

He does reurn to the left handed batter's box and he chops one to the first baseman who boots it and then recovers, but Mark beats the throw to put two on. Another Baylor error on Payton keeps the inning alive.

Barrera up has a chance to hang a crooked number on the board and extend the lead.

He hits a sinking liner to right, but Toth in right runs it down to retire the side.

We finally have a score and it's 1-0 Texas after five innings.

Thornhill pitches the Baylor sixth with his first lead of the game facing left hander West Tunnell the DH.

He walks him to put the tying run on first.

Brown tries the" butcher boy" hit and run as he squares and then swings and misses at the high pitch. Barrera nails the runner at second easily and it's one away.

Brown then flies to right for two away.

Langford bats with the bases clear now and two down.
He lines one to center that Payton on the dead run makes a diving snag to retire the side on the do or die play.

Baylor made it interesting but didn't accomplish anything.

The bottom of the sixth happens now with Texas leading 1-0.

Newman faces Shaw leading off the Texas sixth frame batting lefty.

The count runs full and finally draws the walk on the high heat.

HInojosa is up to bunt, but he fouls off two attempts. The second knocks his helmet off and shakes him up a little.

He is back in now and lines out to right for one away.

Carter in from the right side as Shaw is definitely a threat to steal now. So much so that Baylor pitches out as Shaw was not moving.

Carter lines a single to left and that puts two on at first and second for Clemens.

He fouls out to third as the third baseman almost overan the ball, but reached back and made the play for two away.

That brings Gurwitz up again with runners in scoring position for yet another time with two down.
Shaw takes off for third and is gunned down as that has happened way too often for my liking. Can't do that in that situation unless your positive you can't make it.

That retires the side and after six completed Texas ahead 1-0.

Thornhill faces Doe as the Baylor seventh begins batting from the right side.

Gurwitz makes another backhanded stab at third and his long accurate throw gets Doe for one away.

Stretch time at the Disch in the finale of the series and Texas leads 1-0.

Baylor has a new pitcher in Daniel Castano from Lake Travis.

Gurwitz steps in from the right side against the freshman lefty .

He gets it down successfully and Gurwitz is in scoring position.

Johnson has the first chance to drive the run home.
The Baylor pitching coach is out and he makes the change.

The new Baylor pitcher is closer Josh Mihalec.
The right hander sees his first action since taking the loss on Payton's dramatics on Friday night.

Johnson step in as a righty hitter and bunts one down to third and the third baseman was back deep and has no chance to throw him out and it puts runners on the corners and one down.

Here comes the aforementioned Payton that can do even more damage to Mihalec.
A pitch in the dirt sends Johnson to second on the wild pitch.

That opens up first base and Payton will be put on intentionally.

That loads the bases with one down for Barrera.
The Texas clean-up man can put this game in good place for the Horns with a hit here.

He lines one to the gap in right center that does just that.
The double plates two Horns and makes it 3-0.

Runners on second and third now for Shaw with a chance to put this game on ice.
The infield comes in as the lefty steps in against the Baylor closer.
He walks on four pitches to reload the bases with one down.

That brings Hinojosa up with a chance to put this away.
The head coach for Baylor comes out now and I think says if we are going to have any chance you got to shut them down now.

He goes back to the dugout and C.J. steps back in.
A pitch goes behind Hinojosa's head, but hits the bat to prevent the wild pitch and a run scoring.

A grounder up the middle is fielded by the shortstop who goes to the bag and then the relay is late as the run scores.
It's just a 6-4 second out. He was too far from the bag for that and should have made the flip, but he didn't.

That makes it 4-0 and runners on the corners with two down for Carter.

He walks to load the bases again and he is gone as the pitcing coach comes out to get him.

I don't think the Baylor closer will take many good memories from Austin back to Waco.

Pitching change.

The new Baylor hurler is lefty Doug Ashby who threw yesterday and comes from all angles.

He throws one pitch to Clemens and he grounds out to second to leave them loaded.

Texas scores three times and takes command of this game now leading 4-0 after seven innings.

Thornhill pitches the eighth for Texas and Dodson faces hm battting left handed.

He leads off by one hopping one to Marlow for the lead 4-3 out.

One down brings Sheppard up from the right side.
He tops one to the right of the mound and Thornhill bare hands it and throws him out for two away.

Tunnell bats with two down and nobody on.
He pops one foul that Gurwitz has no trouble with all and that retires the side in order.

Bottom of eight comes and Texas with a tight grip on this one leads 4-0.

Ashby back to the mound as the Texas eighth begins with Gurwitz flairing one to right for a Texas League single.

Marlow comes one more time with the top of the order and with the 4-0 lead it appears he won't bunt.

A ground ball to the left of the second baseman will move the runner to second as the 4-3 play is one away.

Johnson up with a chance to play add on grounds also to second for two away as Gurwitz goes to third.

Two down for Payton and he has one last chance to hurt the Bears.

He grounds to first and the pitcher covers for a 3-1 out to retire the side.

The ninth comes and Texas goes for the first conference sweep in nearly two years.

They lead 4-0.

John Curtis, the Texas closer makes his first appearance in the series. It's not a save chance, but it's a sweep chance.

He faces righty hitter Brown in the nine hole leading off the Baylor ninth.

He lines a single to left to reach as a lead runner.

Langford brings the top of the Bear order with a man aboard.
A ground ball goes to short and Hinojosa flips to Marlow for one, but the relay is wide and it's a 6-4 force out.

One down for Doe with one on and he fouls out to right to Shaw for two down.

The last chance for Baylor is Toth as the runner goes to second on fielder's indifference.

He K's swinging on the low curve and the brooms are out.

Texas wins the game 4-0 and sweeps the series from Baylor.

The pitching was the story today as they shutout the Bears till the hitting could come alive late to cinch things.

Hello first place in the conference with OU in a virtual tie,

With momentum Texas heads to Norman next week for a first place showdown with OU.

It doesn't get much better than that and this series sweep is also very sweet.

A lot of this game was very frustrating to watch but the horns just keep on winning and unlike last year they seem to be finding that critical hit and game winning run that never seemed to come last year.

Can’t quite put my finger on it, but it feels like the universe is beginning to put itself back in the proper order.

I really like beating Baylor. They've really never done much -- a women's BB title and a Heisman -- but they act like sports were invented on the banks of the Brazos.

Hi Texanne,

You live closer to them than many of the rest of us, so you probably hear more of their screeching banter than we do.

Maybe Texas will get back to where the used to be: back then, Baylor beat the Horns one out of every 30 FB games and one out of every five baseball games.

I liked the last innings of all three games this weekend. Last year, Texas rarely scored many runs in the late innings. In this series, they scored late in all three games. The bats have come alive the last few weeks. Keep it going.

Although Waco is almost exactly the same distance from Austin and College Station, the Big 3 in Central Texas (KVTX, KCEN and KXXV) broadcast as if UT doesn't exist.

Screw the Brazos Baptists and Drayton McLane University.
