Baylor football player under investigation after sexual assault allegation

By TOMMY WITHERSPOON [email protected] | Posted 44 minutes ago April 7, 2016

"Waco police are investigating a sexual assault allegation against a prominent player from Baylor University’s 2015 football team after a fellow student reported the player assaulted her early Sunday morning.

The Tribune-Herald is not naming the athlete because he has not been arrested.

The player declined comment Monday when asked about the allegation.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” he said.

Waco police searched the player’s residence near the Baylor campus Sunday afternoon looking for evidence to support the woman’s claims that the player sexually assaulted her between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect told Waco police detectives the sexual contact was consensual.

A police affidavit for the search warrant said police were looking for clothing the woman left behind at the player’s residence, earrings, blood, semen, bodily fluids, hair, skin cells, DNA, bedsheets and other items.

Court documents indicate officers seized two comforters, a fitted sheet and a flat sheet from the suspect’s bedroom.

The woman went to the hospital after the alleged assault and was examined by a sexual assault nurse examiner, according to the court records.

The affidavit, drafted by Waco police Detective Sam Key, said the woman met the man at a Baylor-area nightclub and he asked her if she wanted to go to his residence. They walked to the nearby duplex and the player “forced” her into a bedroom, according to the affidavit.

He “forcibly removed” the woman’s clothes, “forced” her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her, the affidavit alleges.

The woman fled after the assault but told police she left her panties at the duplex and lost an earring in the bedroom...."

I know Briles can't have his eyes on all his players 24/7 but when it keeps happening he needs to put his foot down. Somethings are bigger than football

It certainly seems that someone in McLennan County needs to take a class called "Consensual & What it Means".

Imagine a Baptist telling a Catholic he is right, but you hit it in the head. Baylor needs to replace all the "basketball boys" running hte place and bring in some ethical people, starting with promoting Joel Gregory, bringing back Randall O'Brien as President, and bring in Daniel Vestal as Chancellor. Anyone at Baylor or affiliated with Baylor who has ever been to a Baylor basketball game needs to be sent packing.

Texas Monthly reporting that Shawn Oakman is under investigation for sexual assault on the night of April 2nd. Search warrant executed on April 3rd police took his bedding.

Baylor is out of control.

This will continue to happen as long as Briles is at Baylor. This is a culture he's been willing to accept in the name of winning football. Some people will say that he shouldn't be held accountable because Oakman was no longer on the football team. Only problem with that argument is that Briles is the reason Oakman is at Baylor. Just like Ukwuachu, Briles brought him in with little regard to his troubled past. There will never be a change in culture at Baylor as long as Briles is running the show. Anyone that trusts Briles to do anything more than put up a 4"x8" sign here and there is kidding themselves.

Along with the Admin. Along with the BMDs.

Sadly Baylor was primed for Briles before Briles showed up. Briles didn't start any of this, he just fits in very comfortable to the mold they've created there.

This is not a "blame the victim" comment by any means, but at this point, if you're a woman and live in the Waco area and an athletic college-age man asks you to come back to his apartment, you politely say "NO."

What the hell is going on in Waco!!! This is getting out of control.

I know every school has its problems with students and athletes getting into trouble but there is a very disturbing pattern with Baylor football players.

I hope they handle this situation better than the Ukwuachu case.

I don't think I'll ever live in a society where physically powerful men don't impose themselves sexually on women, nor one where scheming women don't use sex as a tool to acquire power, money and status. There are enough of the latter that we should be reticent in assuming guilt of the former.

Should be interesting to see how this opinion plays out.

Perhaps if these two groups just preyed on each other...

Crockett does have a point. Its also very hard to prove one's innocence in a he said/she said case like this.
That said, F Briles and F Baylor. Its proven fact that they are scummy.

If the evidence or even public pressure leads to charges against Oakman, his decision that night will be the worst of his life.

Oakman likely would've been drafted in the late 2nd to 3rd round. If sexual assault charges arise, no team will even sign this clown as a dirt cheap undrafted free agent.

It won't matter if he's actually guilty or simply used poor judgement selecting a random sex partner at a club.

Imagine him being innocent at a time of raging heat in Waco over athletes getting shielded from these crimes. The pressure to bring charges has to be overwhelming regardless if the evidence meets typical standards.

Never understood why these prospects can't just shut down their entire social life and eat, sleep, and breath football for the 4 months leading up to the draft.

Do/say all the right things, earn you highest value, sign the contract, secure your financial future, and then resume being an f'n moron if that's their true character.

Then again, countless examples of human behavior defy even the most basic logic.

Wouldn't it be up to Monica as to whether Bill had a good or bad taste? Just ask her and we could have saved lots of money.

Move Redding to LB. There, football related.

Can we please keep this thread football related or at least about the thread topic.

Leave the ancient history for the West Mall.

Briles is rotten to the core, but there is more blame to go around.

It's time school presidents step up. They, for the most part, seem to be gutless weenies that just want to collect the money from football programs.

LAGA4,

Not so much the school presidents (by and large clueless except for Boren) but a couple of major athletic powers (including Boren) stepped up several years ago and served Baylor with an ultimatum. Unfortunately, it was "remove" and did not include any approval of the replacement. If you replace dog turds with pasture patties, how much change can you expect?

Boren needs to lead the charge that Baylor cleanup or say "hello" to being independent, which in essence is the death penalty.
