Battle 4 Atlantis

Former coach McEntire posted a tweet today about how it seemed highly ranked teams that had multiple transfers from the portal were struggling early in this season vs. those teams that had been together for a while. She was not negative about the portal and indicated that many teams will benefit from transfers. But, she went on that it takes time to build a team and not to be surprised to see some of the teams that are currently struggling advance to a high level in the championship playoffs perhaps even the Final Four. It’s about team chemistry and development. Vic has to make that happen and I think his overall positive remarks about this teams’ effort is evidence he is working on just that.

Pretty much what @Sincerely hookem said minus the first disdainful sentence.

Well, I guess she just confirmed what he had to say . And what is “disdainful” - the fact that she is a “former” coach or do you think she’s throwing shade at UT?

Some of yal really don’t understand basketball at this level at all and it shows “real bad”.

In other words, we're too stupid to understand what's going on.

My sincere apologies this is the first time I’ve ruffled feathers on here. I wasn’t trying to be disdainful but just like my 1st sent bothered yal when yal get on here and start having panic attacks over pre season loseses it bothers me. I could say the way yal talk about some of these young women. As I said my sincere apologies to anyone who felt attacked

For what it's worth, message boards are always full of fans who have a wide range of understanding of the game. It's not unique to HornFans. It does often help enliven the conversation though.

As they say, a hit dog is gonna holler. I didn’t think your comment was disdainful I just thought it showed you were annoyed with some of the knee jerk reactions. It’s allowed in my book. Mild banter if you ask me.

I’m not regretting my decision to not pay to see these games. I’m looking forward to heading to Austin and spending my money to see the Princeton game instead.

I'm just going to say it, "I hate that some of you have to judge others and say we're panicked or that our posts are knee-jerk reactions." IMO, the opinions are based on the reality of the moment. As the team goes so go the opinions. I don't think anyone on here has thrown in the towel on the team. When we're 20-3, then judge the prior opinions we have given, if you must.

It’s not judging it’s just another opinion. Those opinions are just as valid as yours. No more, no less. It’s not personal at all.

An opinion of an opinion? Nope, that's a judgment!:catfight:
Certainly your right to take it that way, but why be so rough on yourself? I don’t know you so it’s not personal. I just happen to disagree with your opinion. That’s not a judgement it’s simply an opinion. You have an opinion and want to express it. Same here. There’s no rule we have to agree (that I’m aware of).

This message board is mild compared to Orangebloods. No football coach or player is spared from the constant banter, criticism, second-guessing of the team.

Personally, I learn a lot from the discussions of the critiques and questions of the coaching decisions, the players strengths and weaknesses, coaching hires, etc. Every member of HF's brings something to the table and I enjoy hearing their voices, even if I don't agree with him/her (as long as the discussions aren't personal and hateful towards a coach, player, or another member of HF). It's healthy for a fan base to not only celebrate the wins but to provide other perspectives and viewpoints when we are struggling.

I'm likely one of those who may be judged as panicked or having knee jerk reactions. For instance, I think waiting until September to hire a post coach is too long. In the offseason, when we're bored and looking forward to basketball season, it's only natural for some of us to take interest in what's going on behind the scenes with coaching hires. Does it get obsessive? Maybe. But again, what else are we going to discuss in the offseason? People say, "trust Vic". I do 95% of the time but he is not infallible and he would likely agree.

Thanks to all who post here on the Women's Basketball forum. I don't know much about "X's and O's" so I appreciate your knowledge and perspectives. I also enjoy those who follow other teams and keeping us up to date on what's happening outside of TxWBB.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't care if you disagree with my opinion all day long...that's your opinion. BUT, when you label the opinion as panicked or knee jerk, that's a judgement. Get it?

@brnkj It was long overdue, but I just donated to HF's and became a Sponsor. It was laziness on my part but I spend so much time on this board, it is money well spent.

For sure! And, let's not forget the infamous yet way overdone "Vic gonna Vic" comments by those posters who try to stifle others from expressing their opinions.

I use Vic gonna Vic all the time. If you think it is to stifle other posters, I simply cannot help you.

I use it because it explains why he does things like hire coaches on a very slow timeline. He has said it himself, repeatedly. He takes his time to insure a good fit, etc. He has also said he isn't about to change that habit. Therefore, Vic gonna Vic.

If people want to enjoy trying to justify the long delays, go on tangential WNBA player/coach speculative projections to justify a timeline, etc, etc, that's fine. It's a way to pass the off-season and keep engaged with the goings-on around the program. But it doesn't hurt anybody to be reminded on occasion that Occam's razor suggests that the simplest explanation is "Vic gonna Vic".

Interesting quotes from Geno in this article about upsets:
"What we don't need is when that does happen, to go, 'Ah, that team's not any good. How could they lose to that team?' Well, damn, you can't have it both ways. Either the favorites win all the time and there's no parity, or the other guys win and you go, 'Let's celebrate those guys that won and don't ***** about the guys that lost.' That's what we're all striving for."
