Barbecue in San Antonio

Barbecue Station should not be confused with City Market or Cooper's, but to call it mediocre tells me that you haven't been there lately or more than once. I eat there more than I should, and it is consistently good to very good. I've been to most of the places on the Austin list, and I think most of them fall into this same quality range. If you are going to list County Line as an Austin option, then you have to include it for San Antonio as well, as we have two locations.

There was a place not too far from Southwest HS called BBQ Patio that was excellent. It was the only place listed in SA in the most recent Texas Monthly barbecue review. It closed at some point within the last year. Too bad. I would have definitely gone there more frequently if it hadn't been so far away. I feel the same about Harmon's. It is very good, but not so good that I need to forgo a 3-minute drive to Barbecue Station.

alot of it might be what time of day you go to the barbecue place. i just finished up eating some pork ribs from barbecue station and they were very subpar. last week for lunch they rocked. i was kind of afraid of that going so late in the day.

if tonite was the first time i had eaten there i probably wouldn't go back, but i know better.

Maybe instead of seeking BBQ in San Antonio you should be looking for Barbacoa. The world would be dull if the specialty in every city was the same food.

OK to be fair it has been probably 2-3 years since I was at BBQ Station, I ate there maybe 3-4 times. My overall impression was mediocre. I no longer travel 410 that often so since it's off my route I don't go out of my way to go there. For the sake of Hornfans BBQ integrity I will make the trip soon and report general findings.
