"The next 4 years are likely to be a stalemate for the most part......."
Not if the GOP wants to win in 2016. They should attempt to avoid the stalemate at all costs.
If we see the same old same old from the right parts of Congress with Tea Partiers scaring the moderate right into submission, or the Senate retards with their "nanny nanny boo boo you don't have 60 votes" nonsense, then we'll continue down the 50-50 path for another 4 years and the GOP can hope for another candidate as semi-viable as Romney (but only if the far right allows it) in yet another close election cycle.
But if they take their panties out of a wad, accept the fact that normal people don't support candidates like Akin or Mourdock, and stop going to the right of Mussolini during primary season, they'll be more likeable, and thus more electable.
This means that we'll have 4 years of no dramatic tax cuts (GASP!), accepting that many people in many states (even red ones) prefer the social liberal side of the aisle, and that 1950s America isn't the American Dream any longer. Tune out the Huckabees, Dick Morrises, and Chick-Fil-A parties for a little while and see if people are willing to take a gamble on someone like Rubio or Christie in 4 years.
