'Barack, feel -- don't think!'

Sums up Obama more than I can say.... feel don't think....
The most mindless and meaningful drivel spews forth from him on the campaign trail.
Mind you, I am not calling Obama unintelligent. I do not question the man's intellectual abilities. I just question those who are voting for him because of how he makes them 'feel' rather than based on any rational basis of his policies or positions on issues.

So what do you say of women and even NOW that vote for Hillary based purely on gender?

If Obama wins the general election, the West Mall will become one of the most entertaining sites on the net. 6 months into his first term, the Obamapoligists will everywhere.

Obama will redfine the term "empty suit" and take it to a new level.

You guys act like he has no plans. Just because he's not laying out detailed policy initiatives during the Democratic primaries and a year from taking office doesn't mean he won't. Among the policies he has said he'll pursue--and flesh out later when he has to--are universal healthcare, pulling out of Iraq, signing a global climate change treaty, and support more incentives and research into alternative fuels.

general, I don't think someone should be voted FOR or AGAINST based on their gender or their skin colour.

People who vote for HRC JUST because she is a women is pretty weak in my book. Just as it would be weak to vote for someone because they were white, or a man, or..... the list goes on... and should include just because they are a Dem, or just because they are a Rep...
(intentional dig at straight ticket voters)

to say :his unwillingness to take big money from lobbyist leads me to believe he will not be in the pockets of those who have their own agendas to further at the expense of the American people.

Obama HAS taken lobbyist money before . not much however
what is he doing may be just as beholding. According to Huffington post and The Hill what obama has done is to call on lobbyist asking for the lobbyists network of business clients and acquaintances as well as calling lobbyists relatives
One of the lobbyists, who supports Clinton, said that Shomik Dutta, a fundraiser for Obama’s campaign, called to ask if the lobbyist’s wife would be interested in making a political contribution.

“I was quite taken aback,” he said. “He was very direct in saying that you’re a lobbyist and we don’t want contributions from lobbyists. But your wife can contribute and we would like your network.”

Dutta declined to discuss his work.

I am sure he did

By appearing to stay above the fray and just " feel" Obam will likely win. I guess that is what it is all about

reading the OP excerpt, it's obvious that Obama is being encouraged to not drill down into policy and details on the stump. This advice from his wife is situational related to addressing 18k+ crowds. It's not refelective of how the wheels turn when he's at the desk.

People don't stand out in the cold in a line a mile long with kids in tow to hear about the intellectual vagaries of policy and governance.

To get elected, you have the best shot if you can think AND feel and bring one over the other when the circumstance demands it. His wife obviously knows what he possesses when he turns on the feeling tap and is simply there to make sure he brings it.

This must be the Obama article on lobbyists 6721 is referencing. I won't bother to cut and paste, but it's a good read and explains a lot more about something that is easy to misrepresent:The Link

I wonder how many people who are currently saying Obama is an empty suit supported Bush because he seemed like a guy you could have a beer with and made them feel like they were putting a good guy in the White House.

"The most mindless and meaningful drivel spews forth from him on the campaign trail'
He spews less than any poltician since I have been voting.

bozo - I think many would agree with me that Bush brought a naiveté to the White House that may have been costly in terms of the foreign policy he subsequently pursued. He was called much worse then an empty suit by many posting n this very thread.

I look at Obama and his 2 years in the Senate and 2 years in the Illinois legislature and I go "holy sh**" he makes Bush look like Churchill. Obama will be a much bigger sock puppet for the far left elements in the US then Hillary. I fear these "liberalcons" every bit as much as others fear(ed) the Neocons.

Obama and his lack of anything approaching specifics is scary.

triple
I got part of the information from that site you linked
and the informationj that his co chair is a registered lobbyist from msnbc
firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/01/02/544600.aspx

plus some eye opening info here'The Link

so for to obama to act all pure here in silly. At least Hillary comes right out and admits it. I think her explanation was spot on.

the sad part is many people including people on here ONLY hear obama say that and think he is beholding to no one.

Obama and his campaign get it!!!

They began the campaign last year with several splashy events including the 15,000 person rally in Austin to prime the fund raising pump. But rather than continuing on a meteoric rise like Dean and others who have crashed and burned, he dialed it back. The campaign knew that if they rose too quickly, they would peak way too early and the press would excoriate them if they lost any primaries.

And what form did the dial back take? For 4-5 months, he held policy roundtables and his speeches were all policy and detailed plans. They understood that heavy policy speeches would not excite the electorate which was fine because they were not ready to be the frontrunner. His campaign was criticized for lack of momentum and that his speeches were no longer inspiring.

When it was time to build the momentum, the campaign understood that if you want to sell a car, you don’t run a commercial that lists all of the specifications of the car? Of course not! You get the consumer interested in the car. You get a celebrity to “endorse” the car. For some, seeing what it looks like will be enough. For others who want to dig deeper, you have all of the information available.

Al Gore is a perfect example of a candidate who listed all of his specifications instead of first selling the car. Michelle was reminding Barack that yes, you know the issues upside down and backwards, but if you fight in the minutia, you will lose the audience. Like it or not, Americans, and I assume all consumers, are pretty simple minded.

If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit. Compassionate conservative. No child left behind. You are either with us or against us. Rove knew how to sell the “car.” Of course, he also trashed the other car regardless of facts, which hopefully Obama will not do.

Now, concerning the empty suit allegation, I can guarantee you that an empty suit has never been the President of the Harvard Law Review. You have to be very very intelligent and work very hard to make any law review, much less Harvard. You make law review by being in the top 5% your first year of law school. And to be elected President of the Law Review, you also need to be a very good politician. It is a very coveted position! As President of the Harvard Law Review, you can get an interview for literally any law job in the country.

If you combine his intelligence, with his judgment, his exposure in his life to all economic strata, his attendance at an elementary school in Indonesia for 4 years, and then throw in his political and oratorical skills and his ability to inspire and motivate, and then you toss in a country that is hungry for a uniter and not a divider, a country that is fed up with both parties in Congress, etc., you have a recipe for success.

Of course, success will not be easy. Those of us who are tired of the politics as usual and who have contempt for both parties in Congress will have to continue to work and to make our voices heard when Congress refuses to work together to pass a real energy bill, a rational health care bill, a comprehensive immigration bill, etc. The special interests of Washington will not give up without an intense fight. I for one am ready for the fight and have been for at least a year.

Obama cultist we may be, but we are cultists who have worked very hard over the last year to beat Hillary. The caucuses evidence that we have outworked her. I am sure that I could have won many bets on Hornfans as to whether Obama had a chance in hell to beat Hillary and there are many who still don’t believe he can win. Although optimistic, I am certainly not confident yet that he can win and I will continue to work hard to make it a reality.

We will know soon and in part, it will depend upon how hard those of you who live in Texas work to make it happen. I will do my part making calls into Texas for an hour or two a day as I sit on my Lanai in Maui sipping Margaritas and watching the whales frolic in the sea. I will be on vacation, but I will “work” an hour or two because I am convinced that Obama will be so much better for the country than Hillary. Time will tell.

P.S.

Gecko. He was an Illinois senator for 8 years and has served so far 3 years in the U.S. Senate as opposed to the 2 year periods you mentioned. But not to worry, because most voters do not bother to find out the facts about a candidate and it is highly unlikely that such facts will be the decisive factor in a person’s vote.

"The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disentrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country."
