Band of Brothers advisory

I have watched BOB numerous times (as recently as 2 months ago I was hung over and watched it all the way through) and read the book. I just watched Generation Kill. Need to read book now.

For reference my favorite part of the entire series was when the German general was addressing his men after they surrendered. It really got me.

I think as a series Gen Kill is better. Obviously BOB deals with bigger subject matter but The guy who directed the Wire just makes people come alive.

I could listen to them talk all day.

Both series are off the charts though.

"Generation Kill"

You'll like the book. I read it on a trip right after the series finished. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I just finished reading Buck Compton's book on his tour of duty with Easy and his life afterwards, especially as the prosecutor of Sirhan Sirhan (Robert Kennedy's killer). Interesting thing that I found out in the book was how much Compton hated Lewis Nixon.

Besides the fact that Compton hated that Nixon was drunk half the time, Nixon apparently embarrassed Compton in front of the town where they were staying (Aldrich, I think) in England by having Compton do close order drills with imaginary soldiers, or something to that effect. Compton thought it was totally unnecessary and done to show up Compton.

It's called "Call of Duty"--my wife got it for me for my birthday and I read it probably in two quick sittings. Pretty easy read, not great writing, but some good stories. Compton refutes a lot of things in BOB as being made up for creative purposes, but that they got most of it pretty dead on. The way he writes makes it appear that he had an ax to grind with some people, especially Nixon.

I figured his drinking had something to do with it. They kind of glossed over it in the series, I imagine because Winters liked him so much.
