Balbay is a thorn in my side

the suckage at the FT line is clearly a set-up by balbay for the ncaa tourney. in a close game, possibly in the sweet 16 or elite 8, the other team will start hack-a-balbay in an attempt to gain the upper hand, assuming he will miss. however, when he approaches the line he'll look into the camera and say - "i have a secret to tell you...i am not left-handed" a-la princess bride...and proceed to shoot 100% from the FT line on the road to the nat'l champ.

patience grasshopper.

caryhorn,Actually, Taps was correct, there were two quotes by coaches at that link, the first by Travis Ford:
“The MVP of this game and the best player on the court was Dogus Balbay. The 10 points was just a bonus for Texas
. They don’t expect 10 points from him. But the way he runs his basketball team and the presence he adds to the team is great. He disrupted a lot of things we like to do and I think we allowed him to do it at times. He is a great example of someone who may not be the best scorer in the world but he effects the game in a lot of ways.”

the second by Rick:

"Dogus was terrific. I told the team I thought he was the single biggest difference for us
with what he did in terms of trying to disrupt things. He’s played now against people not wanting to guard him and he’s making the adjustments himself."

It's amazing that we have hands down the best team first, get it done at all costs, hustle guy in the nation on the same team as the worst. Wonder if J'Covan gets tired of hearing from Barnes 30 times a practice that he needs to be more like Balbay. Reminds me of that scene from Rudy.

big vegas horn,

this year I have seen some great team play from j'covan. super passes, assists, etc. I think he has elevated all aspects of his game and attitude. look again at J'covan in the upcoming games w/ Mizzu and atm. I think you'll like what you see.

After his play against Okie St. he should be called "Bogus." I mean, would you like him to play like that every game?

I'll admit that I haven't watched enough of the games this year to make that bold of a statement about J'Covan's current attitude - guess I'm just permanently scarred from his antics last year when things started going bad.

when Myck gets to town,he needs to spend time every day this summer watching film of balbay not only on the court but the way he acts off the court.

Losing balbay and gary next year will be huge.

I think that TT comes back. He's a smart kid and realizes that he could benefit from another year of coaching and Todd.

Also,he probably wants to play with Myck.Just a gut feeling.

Jco Brown was't the only player that made turnovers. Ham had multiple turnovers, as did others. The team turnover total was very high. But the team played great defense and scored when it needed to.

Brown took a couple of open threes and didn't hit. big deal. He needs to hustle all the time, and mature some more, and stop pouting. I hope he can do those things. For his sake, and the team's.

If he can put it together he will be playing at the next level. He has tons of talent. We all know that.

If he improves and matures as much between now and next season, as he did between last season and this, he will be a monster. I hope he can find a good, really good, mentor who speaks wisdom to him, and I hope he really listens.

I love watching him do his thing when he's in his groove. He makes it look easy. Not many are as smooth down the lane as he is. Not many can pass into the paint with his vision, and accuracy.

He just has to keep cool. keep working, keep growing.

OK Lite Head Coach after last night's game in Austin :

On why Texas is so good: I was talking about this earlier this week, they have two of the best defensive players in the country. The best defender in the country is [Dogus] Balbay and he can change a game with his defense.

Lots of props for Balbay's defensive skills !

Dogus is a game changer on defense. He is also a great leader, and constantly supporting his teammates. I especially admire how he handles adversity. He never complains about calls, and always maintains his composure.
