Bachman: Beware 'The Soviet Union'

She could be right. I don't trust that Leonid Brezhnev guy one bit. And Mao, watch him too. Commie rascal.

There was some absurd talk several years ago that the decline of the Soviet Union was a ruse to lure us off of our guard. I wonder if she bought into that.

We really can't afford to keep using fear tactics to justify pumping too much money into the defense department.

Wait. What year is this? The Soviet Union is rising? Excuse me?

And yeah, she acts like we are fighting 3 wars because of Obama. Obama inherited them. The propaganda is silly. And has Obama said he is going to whack 500 billion out of military spending? If he did I might actually vote for him! lol

She wants to fight a land war in Asia AND get into a battle of wits to the death with a Sicilian. I find this to be inconceivable.

Keep in mind that our action in Libya will take "days not weeks".

Wonder why BI left out that quote.

So let's see... when Obama does stuff like that (which happens quite frequently as it happens), we're told it's "rage du jour", "nit-picking", "just finding an excuse to criticize", and the time-honored "you hate him anyway so you're going to always find something."

Did I leave any out?

No, but i just think a successfuly R candidate is going to have to have much more media savvy than any D candidate would need. Bachman just has too many dumb gaffes. They're every day. She's just fine in Congress but the national election is beyond her capabilities.

This presidential election is ripe for the taking, but without a viable candidate the repubs are going to blow it. Bachman is a joke and Perry can't keep his foot out of his mouth. There's a reason Romney is atop the polls - because there is no one else! This should be a TBS sitcom. Very funny.

Michele is still better than the present.

I don't give a dam about gaffes, what can you do now?

We are going to have to wait someone is on vacation and jobs can wait until September.

What exactly does Romney offer? Obama simply used his healthcare plan as his own. Romney is basically just not saying anything. Hows that better?

How Bachman can say the Soviet Union is rising and be taken seriously is unacceptable. I dont care if it was a mistake. Its such a well known fact that the Soviet Union is no more that to make the statement she did shows how utterly stupid she is, or just how can fed she is. If she cannot think on her own to make accurate and correct statements, get her the HELL away from the white house, or any other representative position.

For what its worth, Ive scanned all over Fox and CNN websites and cant find any references to Bachman's Soviet Union quote.

I can see Fox, but why CNN too? USAToday and CBS News have covered it on their websites, so why not those two?

Gaffes may suggest idiocy. But these are tangible things that prove idiocy -

1.) Wasting nearly a trillion dollars on a failed stimulus plan
2.) Proposing a budget that did not garner a single vote in the Senate
3.) Standing as an idle spectator while the US credit is downgraded
4.) Proposing tax increases during an economic slowdown and likely upcoming recession.
5.) Hiring a Treasury Secretary that was a tax cheat and cannot figure out how to use TurboTax.

I guess I'm a moron then, because the other day I was talking about Russia and I accidentally called them the Soviets before I caught myself. Clearly I have no concept of history.

I think I can defend her here too. During the coldwar wasn't Soviet Union and Russia synonymous is a lot of ways? For 40 years and most Bachmann's life we build an association between the two. It sticks with you.

Today's daily Bachmanism:

"My husband said, now you need to go and get a post-doctorate degree in tax law. Tax law. I hate taxes. Why should I go and do something like that? But the Lord says, 'Be submissive.' Wives, you are to be submissive to your husbands. Never had a tax course in my background, never had a desire for it, but by faith, I was going to be faithful to what I thought God was calling me to do through my husband."

Why are ya'll still going on about the 57 states remark?

Here's the full quote which he said after months of long days on the campaign trails:

"Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."

It's obvious he meant 47 with one left go and Alaska and Hawaii making 50. God forbid we have a President who when exhausted says fifty instead of forty.

Do you actually think a guy who graduated from Columbia and Harvard law school and had been to 47 of the 50 states in the past few months would not know how many there are? Or do you think it's absurd that he succumbs to exhaustion with a minor slip of the tongue? Are either of these beliefs reasonable? If not, why keep mentioning 57 states?

I dont I would ever make a mistake like that, no matter how tired I was.

The only explanation was he was being sarcastic or making fun, which is stupid when in the spotlight.

Its like saying "its a million degrees outside!" Of course one realizes you are exaggerating to make a point, but still, when you are a public figure, you cant do that. 57 states is close enough to 50 to where if it was being sarcastic, it was very, very poorly done.

But he didn't make a mistake on knowing how many states there were...he made a mistake on saying fifty instead of forty. If you read the whole quote in context 57 makes no sense but 47 makes perfect sense and matches the travel of his campaign.

I just watched a video of the flub, and he might have been joking too. Either way, it's a ridiculous thing to judge a President by. As is Bachmann's mix up to judge a candidate for president by.
