Awesome Movies that hardly anyone saw...

"Last Night"

The Link

I caught this on cable the other night and thought of this thread. I'd never heard of it, but it really made me think.

When the movie begins, we learn that the world is going to end in an unnamed catastrophe in 6 hours. We're never told how the world is going to end. It isn't important.

Several of the main characters have gone to work on their last day on earth. One guy spends his last day methodically calling the customers of the gas company that he works for to say they'll keep the gas working as long as possible. Another guy tries to complete every sex fantasy he ever had by midnight. He has a black woman, one of his former high school teachers, and a virgin lined up for the last six hours.

Very interesting take on a subject traditionally left to blockbusters like Armageddon, etc.

Agree with original post re Nobody's Fool. The book is very good also.

Away We Go - released in 2009 and didn't hear much about it, but I thought it was very funny.

A Boy and His Dog
- from 1975

A few I don't think have been listed:

Thriller/Mystery: Gorky Park

Thriller/Mystery/Sci Fi: Strange Days

Sci Fi: Outland

Foreign Language: Intacto

Great thread.

Can't say this is great, but "Apartment Zero' was at least not seen by many. CIA operative in South America with Colin Firth as a cinema nerd/mamma's boy. Pretty good.

shocked not to see three days of the condor. possibly, the greatest spy/cia movie ever made. i imagine it was a popular movie in the 70's but all the movies mentioned in this thread from the 70's was popular in its day. seinfeld did a great bit on it one time...."this is how it will happen, you will be approached, possibly by someone you know, even a friend....."

Can't believe nobody mentioned 'The Believer' - Ryan Gosling as a neo-nazi but with a twist (don't want to be a spoiler) gives an awesome performance. Good supporting roles by Summer Phoenix and Theresa Russell.

Also, another Daniel Craig flick - 'Defiance' - the Bielska brothers who're russian jews and band together to protect jews from the invading nazis and russian collaborators. True story as well. Craig is excellent in this role.

Again, not sure if it is "awesome" but Ravenous is a movie that while I haven't seen in a long time, I can remember it pretty clearly. So while I wouldn't call it one of my favorite movies, the fact that it has stuck with me says something about it.

Guy Pearce, Begbie from Trainspotting, Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller are the three main characters. Interesting story (cannibalism set in the Sierras in the mid 1800's), interesting soundtrack. Great acting.
