Awesome Movies that hardly anyone saw...

I have a couple: Nobody's Fool (Paul Newman, Jessica Tandy, Bruce Willis, Melanie Griffith, and the whiny Dr from Nip Tuck)
This is one of the few movies where I actually like Melanie Griffith...usually can't stand her, but she's great in this, as is everyone else

The Mountain Men
(Charlton Heston and Brian Keith)

It's no Josey Wales, but it's a solid western/frontier movie.

I don't know if it is considered "awesome" but I like it and I don't know many that have seen it:

L4yer Cake (starring Daniel Craig)

Good call on Nobody's Fool, Eyes. I think that was Newman's 3rd best movie he made. The interaction between Sully and Bruce Willis' character were great, and you can't help but root for the loveable loser role Newman plays.

My Awesome movie that I don't hear anyone talk about is The Spanish Prisoner. Campbell Scott, Steve Martin, Ricky Jay, and David Mamet film. Slow movie, but worth it to watch the character dialogue that Mamet always does well, and Steve Martin plays a role like you've never seen him do before.

Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead

Check out the scene where Treat Williams is working on his boxing technique.

Fandango

I would guess a few more people on this board would have seen this movie since its premise is a group of kids graduating from UT during the Vietnam war.

Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson among others are in this movie.

Several great scenes:

Judd Nelson makes his first jump at the Pecos Parachute School.

Truman, the hippie who runs the Pecos Parachute school, flies to Dallas to pick up a girl in a hippie Cessna to bring her to West Texas.

A great scene where, after their car runs out of gas, the boys decide to rope a train and get a tow into town.

They are all on their way to Mexico to rescue Dom!

This is a really funny movie if you've never seen it!

Primer - one of the great all-time movies about time travel, a little indy film shot here in Texas, I believe.
Sunshine
- a Danny Boyle movie about a crew of astronauts on a mission to jumpstart the sun, done with the combination of emotional intensity and visual styling that he brings to everything he does.

Miller's Crossing
- My favorite Coen brothers movie (which is saying a SHITLOAD), it's a period-piece character study of the man who walks behind the man and whispers in his ear, Gabriel Byrne as Tom Reagan, the second-hand man to an Irish crime boss in the prohibition era U.S.

Romper Stomper
Barfly
Wings of Desire
400 Blows
Aguirre, The Wrath of God
Bob Roberts
Before Sunrise
Panic in Needle Park
The UP documentary series (done every 7 years) The Link really fascinating

I always loved the Whoopee Boys, silly bathroom humor, but I thought it was hilarious.

Someone above mentioned Treat Williams, and there was a small movie he did with Kris Kristofferson and Rip Torn many years ago called Flashpoint.I used to watch it on HBO all the time when I was a kid. The backstory dealt with the Kennedy Assassination.

Just thought of an oldie but goodie...no doubt seen by many our parent's generation but I'll bet not by many Hornfans: The Apartment, circa 1960, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.

Ya know, I think Ms. MacLaine is a nut job, with all of her new-age leanings and her assertion that she is (and will be again) reincarnated, but, damn, when she was young she was hot!

I second layer cake (one of my favorite movies) as is things to do in denver when you are dead. nobody's fool is a good movie but it got wide release. i'll throw a movie out there that i bet nobody has seen...keys to tulsa, an old james spader movie.

One more I just remembered...caught this on HBO or something about 10 yrs ago, and thought it was great:
The Blood of Heroes
Rutger Hauer and Joan Chen in post-apocalyptic semi-sports movie...kind of a cross between Mad Max and Rollerball.
