Avery Johnson...how many more years as Mavs coach?

Thanks. I admit that I didn't follow the Mavs as closely as most of the posters on this thread obviously did. I just wanted to see evidence from those posters that say "avery is a horrible coach".

I would have to side with Avery though on the small ball move last year vs. the Warriors. He had no choice. This was just a bad matchup against a team that was super hot. There was no way that Dampier could play vs. those guys. The advantage 90% of the time is going to go to the quicker more athletic guy than the big slow guy. Dampier is big and slow. He's good vs shaq. Not guys like Amare.

What would you have suggested Avery do vs. the warriors? I don't think he had a choice. He probably didn't like it, but his hand was forced in that series
 
I was at this game. Utah and Jerry Sloan gave the blueprint on how to beat the Warriors.When the Mavs beat the Warrior a month ago, all they did was score points off of fastbreaks.

My questions is "when did Avery turn into a whiny little girl?" Check out his recent quote. Clearly he's being sarcastic and putting the blame on the players. He's not as clever as he thinks he is and he's grasping now..

Are you really trying to compare this year's "solving" of the Warriors vs last year's losing the warriors. It was 2 different seasons. The warriors were no where near as good this year. They were unreal last year in the playoffs. A classic example of getting hot and playing with confidence. If Dampier had played last year vs the Warriors, the outcome would have been no different and probably worse.

I understand your frustration. I am not a mavs fan, just a basketball coach and fan. I agree with some of your points, but the main argument I am making is that last year it didn't matter what the mavs did. THEY WERE GOING TO LOSE THAT SERIES! NO MATTER WHAT! They ran into a buzz saw in the Warriors. It was an anomoly. It's easy for the talking heads to criticize every decision Avery made. I am sure that if he hadn't made adjustments, the talking heads would say that he should "have went small" to match up. It was a lose/lose situation for the mavs and avery
 
Does anyone still believe Avery Johnson wasnt a disaster of a head coach?

If Rick Carlise was here when Avery was the head coach the Mavs would have won the 2006 and 2007 NBA title.
