Avery Johnson...how many more years as Mavs coach?

Avery is supposed to be the defensive genius that Don Nelson wasn't. Yet the Mavericks are absolutely getting lit up by New Orleans. I think he is in serious trouble, if this continues.

One of my big beefs with Avery is that he is such a control freak. He doesn't let his players learn how to play and react on their own. When you watch the Lakers you don't see Phil Jackson standing up and calling every single play both on offense and defense. Thus, our players have all gotten worse every year.

He didn't get fired at halftime? I just assumed he was gone.

Hook'em!!!

Cuban's going to lose another 30 mil + and it was Avery that said he had to have Kidd. He's gone and the Mavs are stuck with Kidd for one more year. Then they lose 2 first round draft choices to boot.

Avery wanted Kidd? I heard that Avery was pissed at the Kidd trade because he considered Devin Harris his own project. When they traded his "project", he was heartbroken.

What is the story regarding the Kidd trade? I've heard both of the views given above? What are they saying in Dallas?

I don't think there's any chance the Mavs make that trade unless Avery is telling Cuban and Donnie that he has to have Kidd.

Dirk pushed pretty hard for the trade as well. I still remember Dirk's quote after the first practice. Something along the lines of, "He was making passes that I could only have dreamed of." Yeah, well that comes with defensive inadequacy you could only have seen in your nightmares.

You know. I used to rag on ex-Cowboy fans that dropped them because of their owner. I just couldn't understand how you could support a team all or most of your life and then drop them solely based on the person that purchased the team. I kind of understand now...

I liked Cuban at first. But his whining might possibly have cost them a couple of playoff series. Miami specifically. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but I just don't see any other possible explanation for the kind of officiating that the Mavs got. To me, it was a Stern payback.

Anyway, the way he acts and his financing of Redacted has made this year's loss (assuming they lose the series) much easier to take. I'll always be a Mavs, Stars, Cowboys, Rangers, etc... fan being from Dallas. But, this is the first time in my life that a playoff loss doesn't bother me as much.

P.S. I apologize if I made a political statement. I'm not intending to turn this into a WestMall thread.

some of you guys are comical. Please explain to me why Avery is a bad coach. I want some concrete examples of why he such a bad coach. If you are just venting cause you are upset you are down 2-0 then that's one thing, but making statements with no evidence is dumb. Avery can't go play. He can't defend for Kidd. That is their biggest problem right now. They would be better off with Devin Harris guarding kidd. If you want to criticize personnel moves, that's one thing, but calling him a bad coach and not providing X's and O's explanations makes the poster themselves look bad.

To anyone who watches the Mavs on a regular basis, and gets to see the local media take on the Mavs the following is obvious:

- Avery did not, does not, and never will like Devin Harris. Its almost as if Avery didn't have time for him, and didn't like playing him. Devin's leash was just long enough fr Avery to yank it,

- Avery wanted a veteran point guard.

- As much of whiner as you might think Cuban is, he does NOT make basketball decisions on his own. Where is Quisy? Where is Devin? Avery didn't like them.

- Avery had given up on Diop last year.

- Avery has made some horrendous coaching decisions that were questioned immediately after the decisions were made by everyone from casual fans, to NBA insiders and the only person that thought those decisions were right was Avery.

- Even at the beginning and middle of this season, something has been wrong with the Mavericks. And the drop off was immediate. Almost like they weren't ready to start the season and have had no energy all year.

- Perhaps more obvious after the sticky icky revelations, Avery has all but destroyed Josh Howard over the last couple of years. Devin and Quisy were his best buds. Yes, its a business, but when you get guys with chemistry like that, its hard to get that back. Thankfully Josh has awakened to play better ball at the end of the season.

- Mavs great run is probably over. Now lets please bring back the Mark Aguirre green road unis.

I really don't understand why Avery has "given up" on all these players. Seems really stupid to just give up on your starting guard and center.
