Austin Wood's Performance Against BC

Absolutely if something happens to Austin' arm as a result of this performance Augie will be ultimately responsible.

No question.

We will see. I firmly believe is that Skip, Augie, and Austin know what they are doing and no harm has been done. Wood indicates he is fine and nothing out of the ordinary happened with his arm.

But I will freely admit it if I am wrong.

Sorry, I'm of the school of thought that at this level, the players are old enough and wise enough to judge for themselves what kind of damage they may or may not be doing to their professional prospects. As such, they should get to have some input on the issue.

People act like these guys are children who don't know any better and need their coach to step in and protect them. That isn't the case, especially not with a seasoned veteran like Austin Wood. How many times does the guy have to say that he felt great, that it was his decision to stay in, and that people who don't know the facts of the situation should keep their opinions to themselves?

Augie's responsibility is to not intentionally abuse his pitcher. It is not his responsibility to question the honesty or judgment of a pitcher who is throwing well, says he feels great, and wants to keep going, especially not when that pitcher has played for him for four years. If he had forced Wood to throw 13 innings or pressured him to, then we'd have a different situation on our hands. That's not what happened.

As for how I would feel if it were a rival ... I'd feel the exact same way I feel now. At some point, the player has to be held accountable for his decisions, and make no mistake about it, this was Austin Wood's decision. I know the buck stops with the head coach, but no head coach is going to forcibly remove a guy who is pitching lights out and says his arm feels great. Why? Because they are not coaching 8-year-olds in Little League.

I think Augie made Austin some money by leaving him in there. Everyone knows his name these days and that can't be a bad thing prior to be drafted

That would be interesting for someone to research. The number of draft picks taken from the 7th round on to make the majors compared to first rounds. If not mistaken Roy Oswalt was taken in round 20 something. Not disagreeing that they were taken in the first round for a reason, but thats not a guarantee but they will be given more opportunity after a team invests X amount of $$$ in them.
