Attention Pierce haters - we are going to Omaha.

Not a Pierce hater, but success doesn't mean he should have been hired. He could go on to win 20 consecutive CWS titles and go down as the greatest college baseball coach in history. It wouldn't change the fact that he had only 5 years experience as a college HC when interviewed for the job. IMO being qualified for a job and being successful at it are two different things.

While I don't believe he should have been hired - I'm glad he was.

BTW, I admire your optimism about the Super Regionals.

Southard now has a lucky flavor of Blue Gatorade and that's all he drinks anymore at the ballpark. Dude has had blazing stuff all along. He says he had some mental stuff going on earlier in the season (not crazy koo-koo mental, just pitcher confidence, etc.). I'll add, in the first half of the season, I saw nobody who got jobbed more on balls and strikes calls--Southard was painting the corners at 97-98 mph, in the strike zone, but wasn't getting the rightful strike calls. When the ump is fair and competent, Southard is a stud on the mound.

Coach on Southard - he's the ultimate teammate. Southard has gone out on his own early and set up batting practice for the team for over a year. He has some "complexity in his delivery" that they've worked on.

And Campbell---Wow!!!
He's brought us power at the most opportune times--on display in the Regionals. (he's done it before with some HRs when the games were in doubt).
