Austin Prop A and Prop B

Are you proposing we go back to a Nueces Strip form of protection? Would you favor that along the border as well?

We have private Constable Patrol that we pay for in the subdivision. I really like it.

Two examples:

My ex was home alone when the doorbell rang. There was a constable deputy asking if she was ok, then instructing her to please go to other side of his car. That's when she saw the second officer with gun and dog in the driveway. Seems the alarm system had malfunctioned and alerted them that she was home alone and an intruder was in the house. The two officers and dog cleared the house (all rooms, closets, attic, and garage. According to ADT, it took the two deputies 90 seconds to arrive from the time the alarm was received. Compare that to calling HPD and no one showing up for two hours.

Secondly, I was walking from my daughter's house to the elementary school taking my grandson his bicycle to ride home. Constable stopped me to say someone reported me stealing a bike. I had gotten about two blocks from my daughter's house.

I appreciate all that HPD does for us and all the crap they have to put up with, but I'm still a big supporter of private constable patrol for our subdivisions.

SabreHorn. I have never heard of that before. But that type of thing is what I was talking about. Proactive protection. It could also include some volunteer work.

ISounds to me Austin is headed toward skyrocketing crime rates.

It sounds so cool to liberals being on those trendy and edgy ideas like defund the police but they never really think through the real ramifications of their actions then blame someone else when it falls apart.

Austin...where San Francisco East meets Detroit South.

Mona,

It has been in existence in greater Houston for 40+ years. Started by a constable named Tracy Maxon reportedly to gain him more income. There are/were a lot of questions about Maxon's business dealings and he was ousted from office, but he did leave the citizens this program , which subsequent and other constables have expanded on. You need help, they get there QUICKLY!

You pay for it through your HOA fees, and it ain't much a month

I see this as a very practical option to government policing. Now what to do with criminals if there is no police department. Do the private constables take over and operate jails? Do criminals get shot on site (not a good option). That link in a justice chain would have to be filled in, but private security, to me, is a start for true freedom.

These are not private forces. It is contract operation through the Constables for the particular precinct where one lives. In effect, the LEO still works FOR the Constable and is subject to call out on other local issues but the neighborhood effectively pays for some per-determined number of hours of patrol during the day.

Where it is really beneficial is the deputies or constables get to know who is SUPPOSED to be there since it is usually the same one or two LEO's and they take the time to know the neighborhood. Even if they don't know ALL of the people, they recognize the regular traffic and know the vehicles and traffic patterns.

Contrast that with what I had on Lake Conroe where it was a gated community with our own private commissioned security personnel who did much the same thing. BUT since they were commissioned, they were also armed and had arrest powers. If they needed transport to the MoCo jail, then either Conroe PD or MoCo SO came to take the miscreant to the greybar hotel.
