Augie speaks

zork,

I know you're not a negativist re Augie. And I know that you know that Augie gives maximum effort in pursuit of reaching Omaha each year.

If you didn't get a chance to attend the Inning By Inning premier in Austin, tune into ESPN2 at 9:00 p.m. on June 15th.

You'll definitely get the picture and have it reinforced time and time again while watching that documentary.

Few overcome the obstacles he did and make such a determined and positive choice re his career and then pursue it with such total devotion and passion. Fewer still succeed to the degree he has.

As frustrating this season was to watch, and as frustrating as it was sitting there in the stands in Houston watching the last Longhorn game of the season, I'm confident that before the young 69-year-old Augie hangs them up, he'll have another Longhorn team dogpiling in Omaha.

Augie is the teacher and the boys are his students. We as fans should be so lucky. While the boys practice next season take in some practices and enjoy the teacher and students in action.

Marley, I'm a big Augie backer. I'm just a crybaby when I don't get to watch the Horns play deeper than the regionals.

Players play, or not, when it comes down to it. Some are more receptive than others to the magic Augie attempts to gives them.

Some of the best maybe hear that too much and actually, maybe, think they are immune from needing the desire or whatever intangible it is that causes one to see the baseball like a basketball when there are 2 outs with RISP and your TEAM is down a run or two. I'm talking Seth Johnson, for example, when he was a Senior driving the team to the CWS championship type mettle/intangibles/etc.

The Stanford squad from the quotes above might have had similar, and I am talking about small gradients/degrees of measurement here, lack of hunger or whatever than the teams that actually pull the games from the fire or don't need to in the late innings.

It's cool. The Horns will be back fighting next year. I'm just crying that it isn't still going on this year. waaa

Gang, if i don't post much on this board in the coming months, it is only because i am going to draw the blinds and stay with my head under the covers until emerging for a few minutes on 8/16 [draftee decision deadline -- see other thread] and then coming out for a longer spell come February.

Cancelling tickets to Omaha is such a lame experience. i am now going on record to say that none of us will have to do so next year. mark it.
