ASU v. UNC

Here's a confusing piece... Can't tell if it's an attempt at "We're Arizona (State)" or trying to be like aggie, projecting a national title run in football... saying "I think we lose only one, maybe two games, at most, next season"... EDIT: on this, I mean that kind of attitude on Texags of projecting how they're going to do.. no intention to align football with baseball Mind you, this is their COACH talking, not a player...

I am not sure where you are getting anything about football from that.

He is saying if they beat NC and Texas twice they get to be on TV three times for each of those games, five counting the two times they already were on TV. Then they go to the championship series and get to be on two or three more times.

I do not really have an opinion on who I want to face. Either way it will be really tough and I don't want to tempt the Baseball Gods.

Depends on who is pitching tonight. We could face a really good ace from either side tomorrow so I don't think it matters at this point. Just be ready to ball. BOOM

I'd rather play Arizona State again. They don't have the offense that UNC does, and I just haven't been impressed with any of their pitchers other than Spence.

After we beat up Leake, I went back and looked at his stats. Dude has pitched a pretty insane number of innings, and his last start (against Clemson in super regionals) was not outstanding either. They won, but Leake was not his usual dominant self (gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 8 innings). I think his arm has just about had it, and if they try to throw him on 2 days rest, I'm just not convinced he'll be up to the challenge.

UNC, on the other hand, is a very confident team, and a very good offensive team. I like their pitching a lot better than I like ASU's, as well. I could see UNC really pushing us, but I think ASU's confidence is shot. Murphy has always had a big mouth, so his comments don't surprise me.

Well, its Spence vs. Harvey. Can't see Spence coming back on Fri or Sat except maybe an inning or so. Of course that depends on how far he goes tonight. ASU looks shakey.

The umps are stopping the begging for a hit routine that players do with their hats????

Did anyone see how pissed Murphy looked during the last few innings of the Texas game? He was muttering to himself and look as if he had the worst case of constipation ever.

I don't really hear this discussed much, but ASU and UNC get to experience why it sucks being a Sat-Mon Super Regional AND losing one of your first two games at the CWS...the winner tonight doesn't get a day off before having to try and defeat a team twice (unlike Arkansas)...(obviously, Texas would have experienced the same had they lost on Tuesday).

Granted Texas gets one less day than LSU to rest our pitching staff, but I don't know how much difference there is between playing your third game in 7 days (LSU) vs. playing your third game in 6 days (Texas)...the 'difference' obviously depends on the relative depth of your pitching staff, especially between your #2 and #3 starters.

Both teams are good. I think the only bonus we have is that both of these teams have a loss and have played an extra game.

However if ASU comes from 4 down and wins they will have some good feeling momentum. If UNC stays ahead they will be playing yet another elimination game.

I don't know.....I say let's play UNC since they don't have an axe to grind. Then again, if we play ASU we'll be in their head no matter what happens in the game.

Confused?

Agree with previous poster. Also...

Behind 4-0 after four full innings of play, I'm wondering if ASU Coach Pat Murphy is beginning to pucker up.... after his bold prediction...

The Texas/ASU series should start back up. Man it was great series when Gus and Brock were the coaches. I know it got ugly because both teams are just College Royalty.

The good thing is the game is tomorrow night and if the other team does get lucky they then have to play the third day in a row. While we are going to be playing with a couple of days off and maybe don't have one pitcher available?
