As BO wastes our money on solar

rv?
then start a thread on that. BUT that is not what the OT is.
It is simply about the waste of our money by BO while ignoring signs companies should not be getting our taxpayer money and signs the industry itself was in trouble in other parts of the world.

Here
from ABC march 12
"A month before Abound Solar announced it would be laying off nearly half its workforce, Congressional Republicans alerted the U.S. Department of Energy that they had questions about the decision to loan the Colorado firm $400 million. "The Link

here from today
The Link
Sun-powered favorite First Solar this morning announced that it would lay off 2,000 people worldwide, or 30 percent of its overall headcount. The cuts are a combination of personnel reductions in Europe and the U.S., the idling of four (!) production lines in Kulim, Malaysia and the outright closing of a plant in Frankfurt, Germany.

That’s a sobering reality for a company "

end of quote

A judge orders execs of Solyndra to receive millions on bonuses.

This is all happening now but for sure let's go back and blame Bush or reagan or anyone for anything doen in the past.

It sure seems as if the prevailing notion is:

"Your guy wasted too much money on the war so now it is our turn to waste huge amounts of money on our causes."

Meanwhile, we are on the fast track to Greece.

Not at all.

But unlike you, I'm against waste no matter who does it.

I am for cutting spending, including defense. Are you? I am for cutting entitlement spending. I am for raising taxes. Are you?

edit to add:

let me continue with my rant. I am like the Republican of yesteryear:

I am for legal abortion

(a new topic, but...) I am for gay marriage. Not that I am pro-gay or anti-gay, but they should have the same social options that are available to straights when it comes to inheritance law, taxes, benefits, etc. I find it abhorrent that people use their religion to deny gays the ability to legally marry. Keep that bigotry in your church, where it belongs.

Immigration? Get some kind of amnesty program going. For god's sake, provide free public education to the kids of illegals. I'm sure Jesus is all on-board to deny kids an education (or so the modern-day evangelical would have you believe).

Get religion the eff out of politics. I can't tell you how much I detest what the right-wing evangelical has done to the GOP.

I am for reducing the size of government in all areas, yes. I am absolutely opposed to tax increases. That's like buying a case of bud for an alcoholic. He may want it, even beg for it. But it doesn't mean it will do him any good. Quite the contrary. We need money in the private sector for the sake of our listless economy.

per
You didn't realize it but you made a really good case for stopping waste going on now. Now is when we can stop it.
should we have stopped it before? YES but we didn't

so why are you opposed to stopping it now while we can?

rv

show me one of your posts or Perhams post or even Pharm which indicates any of you are unhappy with our taxpayer money being wasted on these failed companies.

instead you chose to go back and use the ol " well Bush did it too" rant

But you ask a good question
Are you RV against this waste of our taxpayer money / stimulus dollars for companies known to be in trouble or were pointed out to be in trouble and still Bo gave them money?
I call that waste'
and it can be stopped now

Per
typical
You have ZERO idea how I felt about Bush wasting money

You are entitled to your own opinion but NOT your own facts. keep lying

One more time
should we have stopped past spending? yes
scroll up and read where i posted that, twice I believe but for sure once

but we didn't stop it

all we can do is stop it now
Good lord the machinations you go through to ignore the intent and facts of this particular waste

How amusing that you stoop (not so terribly low for you, but still) to accusing Perham of lying after misquoting me, in other words, lying yourself.

Also, you'll find a line written in one of my posts above about prosecuting corruption (another kind of waste perhaps? Stretch your mind), which gives the lie to your presumption that I have not written about waste in the current administration.

It would be satisfying to uncover your disingenuous intentions were it not so easy and had not already been so often done. Still amusing, though.

Investing in alternative energy sources as our main source of energy diminishes is a good policy. If money has been ill-spent or stolen, then there should be consequences. I don't need to look to Europe or China to set the example in this.

What other models from France or China would you have us mimic?

rv
So YOu do think we should stop wasting taxpayers money on failing solal companies.
Good to know and hard to ferret out of a generic statment.
Then we agree on this topic.
whew
I feel better

and I am glad you brought up Spain while asking what countrie's policies I want to mimic

First here Nov 2011
'Solyndra, sunPower and a few more solar companies haveblown about $1.5 billion of our tax dollars.

Now, Barack can not find enough American firms to burn our money, he had to find a Spanish solar firm–at $2.7 billion.

“Over the last two years, DOE Secretary Steven Chu has awarded Spain-based Abengoa — a sprawling, multi-national industrial firm operating in 70 countries — loan guarantees worth a staggering $2.78 billion for solar and ethanol plants."

Why?

but then this Jan 2012
Spain halted subsidies for renewable energy projects to help curb its budget deficit and rein in power-system borrowings backed by the state that reached 24 billion euros ($31 billion) at the end of 2011.

“What is today an energy problem could become a financial problem,” Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria said in Madrid. The government passed a decree today stopping subsidies for new wind, solar, co-generation or waste incineration plants. "
The Link

Too bad we didn't mimic Spain and refuse to guarantee billions in loans to a spanish company.
Who will be on the hook if Abengoa defaults? The gov't of Spain or us taxpayers to the tune of 2.7 billion?
We need to see which of BO's donors has stock in Abengoa

and ONE more time. yes we need to keep exploring alternative sources. But this so far by BO has been disaster after disaster costing us billions and billions .
read the entire link to see why we shouldn't and dont need to be subsidizng and guaranteeing .

That is not what I said/ I said while we are wasting our taxpayer dollars on failed companies countries like Spain Germany China and ever the UK are backing off subsidizing solar. Why wouldn't we do some research on what is happening in this industry before we committ our hard earned and needed elsewhere dollars?

That is called due diligence. This practice seems to have escaped BO
If some want to call that mimicing or following the lead, go ahead. I call it a good business practice.

Horn89, really appreciate your input. You mentioned citizens twice in your post (insured and not). What do you recommend that we do about medical care for non citizens?

Healthcare for illegals is a complex issue that I don't claim to be an expert on.

Obviously, we need to enforce the immigration rules that are already on the books. So I think most of us could agree to start there.

But they deserve emergent care. Not free... you can send them a bill. Most will never pay it, but I have seen on more than one occasion an illegal leaving the ER after getting their wrist fracture splinted or fingertip injury cared for. And I've seen them reach into their jeans and give the lady in the business office their wad of cash -- all of it -- to try to pay the bill.

If we as a society are going to hire illegals to trim our trees, and by doing so, we're saving ourselves hundreds of dollars over what we'd have spent to have legal Americans do the job, then they're adding something to the economy. So when one of them has a tree branch crash down on them and break their ankle, I think that a humane society takes care of that person, and doesn't block their entrance to the ER and just wag a finger at him.

That said, we're creating all kinds of similar issues (citizenship for their kids, education, etc.) by not enforcing our borders. Instead of PREVENTING these issues by enforcing our boundaries, we've sent hundreds of thousands of soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan at a cost of around half a billion dollars a day.

That's insanity, IMO.
