As BO wastes our money on solar

Horn6721

Hook'em
other nations bow out.
Spain
germany is stopping subsidies for solar companies ( and germany didn't lose BILLIONS on bad companies)
now China is foregoing solar( and wind as well to focus on nuclear.
The Link

BO has tried to use china's push for solar to prop up his wasteful and ignorant use of our taxpayer money. do the names Solyndra, Ener1 Beacon Power ring any bells?
How about all the money BO wasted on " green jobs"?
How much did he spend of our money? how many actual " green jobs" were there created and at what cost?

This doofus needs to quit wasting our money on ill advised projects>

and before some supporter goes off on how we need alternatives souces YES we do but right now we have to be intelligent about it
BO is being stupid.

So we should copy those countries when it comes to energy policies but not when it comes to health care (like Germany)?

Is there some sort of manual you can direct us to where we can find out when we should copy others and when we shouldn't?

I35 - are you talking about health care?

I'm not advocating that we should, or should not stay with solar. I am criticizing the extremely weak reasons given in the original post.

I doubt I35 will get this, so I'll have to spell it out, but his response can be used to compare the US healthcare system to, say, Germany's. And using the "reasoning" of the op (and I use the term reasoning very loosely) we should jettison the US healthcare model and adopt Germany's.

So if you want the US to do this, or not do this but do that, please give a more intelligent reason that country X is doing, or not doing, it.

As if US policy in an area is, or has been, dictated by what other countries do.

The utter stupidity here is that if Obama was copying some other country in a policy measure the conservatives didn't like, then Obama would be little more than a copycat, lap-dog imitator.

Healthcare and alternative Energy should not be run or dictated to by the Federal Government.

As has been proven time and time again, when the Federal Government gets involved, waste, corruption and ineptitude permeates every facet of the organization.

If you want cheap and affordable alternative energy, let the market dictate the solution, the same with Healthcare.

I am personally against all Tax breaks, being realistic and knowing they will never go away, tax breaks could encourage growth in a specfic market, prime example would be the Toyota Prius.

Please Please tell us you weren't being serious when you tried to make it that my posting all the countries that are going away from solar/wind suggests I think we chould copy them?
Please say you are smart enough to see BO has wasted BILLIONS of your and my money on failure after failure and while he was doing that he kept throwing up CHina as a reason why we needed to give these companies money.

Step back and tell us honestly
do you think we should have given Billions to Solyndra
and tell us honestly
now that so many other nations, who'd benn trying solar longer than us have backed out of it do you think BO should continue to give our money to solar companies?

You did strongly imply that we should follow Germany and get out of solar power and the subsidization thereof.

But again with the partisan criticism. How much did the Iraqi war cost us? Where were your complaints of billions, if not trillions, spent on that?

What about "giving" our money to banks that were under "voluntary" regulation? Or to failed savings and loans?

Yours is nothing more than a petty, partisan criticism lacking anything of substance and made simply it allowed you to call our President a doofus.

Perham1,

Sometimes you and Satch make peoples head want to explode. Other countries healthcare doesn't work and has been proven over and over again. So what does Obama do? He goes and forces healthcare down our throat with a cost of almost three times more than he claimed. Then we see solar is not working in other companies so Obama wants to keep it. Why do we need a manual to tell us when or when not to follow other countries when the answer is right there in front. You act like we can't learn from other countries mistakes.

Didn't (doesn't) the US Government subsidize and/or provided tax law support for oil drilling and development?

Did the market actually choose individual transportation over mass transportation in the US? I thought it was the "invisible hand" of the oil and auto industries that helped dismantle nascent mass transit in places like Los Angeles.

There are plenty of good results due to the market systems, but it is naive to ignore its failings and corruptibility.

I can't believe anyone that has ever been in a VA hospital, post office, driver's license center, Amtrak station, public school, welfare office or public healthcare clinic would ever advocate for federal takeover of the healthcare system.

Hasn't the recent news about cost alone (never mind the actual practice) been enough to sway people's opinions on this Utopian pipe dream?

Not to totally derail the topic, but for those interested in learning the idiosyncrasies of health care economics, Uwe Reinhardt at Princeton is a good read.

I did not strongly imply we should copy Germany. I brought up germany spain and china to name some who have gone away from subsidizing solar. I STRONGLY made the point that BO used China as a reason to subsidize solar.

RV
you posted,
"Didn't (doesn't) the US Government subsidize and/or provided tax law support for oil drilling and development? "

why yes yes the gov't does
but was that the point of the OP? That we shouldn't subsidize any industry?
Why deflect from the OP
which is BO has wasted BILLIONS of our money on something and companies that even before he spend our money were known to be in trouble or questionable
Now RV IF you want to be relevant provide a list of oil and drilling companies that have gone bankrupt and cost taxpayers Billions in just the last 3 years.

tv
how sad and telling that you find my parameters so funny.
Do you think there is ANY connection between companies that got BILLIONS from us and then failed in the last 3 years and BO taking office?
do you think it is funny that our hard earned taxpayer money is being flushed down the drain on ventures that were questionable even as the billions were being doled out?

You have a stange sense of humor

Halliburton is a successful company that has and will employ a huge number of Americans. They're also an important company for bringing real energy to the world and they have been for decades. Also, they were getting lucrative government contracts long before GWB got to the White House.

You brought up Halliburton, as is your usual parroted talking points:

A little history lesson for you:

www.halliburton.com/AboutUs/default.aspx?navid=970&pageid=2312

Sometimes it is just amazement at how people hear something on Bill Mahrer and take it as the truth, lock stock and barrell? Do you ever do any research on your own or look up different opinions on anything? First one that fits your argument, bam that is the truth loud and proud regardless of how foolish it makes one look....

rv, if I'm reading you right - it's government that is greedy and awards their friends pork. Both Dems and Repubs. Which is why it's folly to post tripe from the likes of Malkin in order to "prove" anything.

Those who do that are still just wallowing in their partisan sty.

Per
How perfectly silly that trite post is.
What does something you think was wrong 8 years ago have to do with NOW?

Shouldn't you be more concerned over billions, billions that we don't have, being wasted NOW?

We can't change what you think happened wrong 8 years ago but we CAN stop BO from wasting any more of our money now.

Whether you realize it or not, billions and trillions wasted in the past (Iraq war) do affect us now. It becomes part of our deficit. So, unlike you, I am not quite so eager to ignore past indiscretions. I can see why you would since it was under the watch of GWB.

The problem I have with your "analysis" is that it is entirely partisan, and as such, contains no real point, no real information. You harp on what the Dems do; ignore what the Repubs do. So what. Any idiot can mindlessly root for their team. If you're serious about the problems affecting us you will see the problems first and the party second.

Perham,

You read me precisely.

I vote Dem with a held nose. We have a failing system, I don't expect either party to fix it. It's a shame the Tea Party rose up as just an alternative for the GOPs, it would have been sort of thrilling if a grass roots movement could have shook the foundations of what is going on.

I expect there are GOPs who feel the same way. We don't even really debate the respectable ideologies of where government should act and where it should be restrained from acting, we just fiddle fart with lies and distortions about minutia.

For some, their political party becomes too much of their identity. I wrote long ago that I feel more defined as a person by my association with UT and the Longhorns than I do by whatever the Dems do. My ego is undamaged when the Dems weakly comply to a bad policy out of fear. Their cowardice doesn't make me a coward.

We are like prisoners in the lunch line. The choices for entree are none very appealing. Thus, I become more detached.
