Are we overpopulated?

wow Prodigal…thanks for that link! that is a great read. It's funny how it seems people are always manufacturing new global crises and when they don't come about it doesn't matter because a new one has quietly moved in to replace the old one. I wonder what it will be when AGW theory dies away….

there's that religious bigot we all know and love. Man GT, do you let your Christian bigotry leak out during class when you are teaching students?

thanks GT....actually, I really do care for you man. Once I figured out who you were a while back (last summer) I got past my immature approach to our internet dialogue (at least in my head I did!). I am sure you are a great guy and you are clearly very intelligent and highly accomplished. I just wish you wouldn't let your personal hurts from Christians growing up bias you against all of us (or most of us). At any rate, I appreciate the affection....even if it was said with a tone of sarcasm. I bet if we ever met in person, we would like each other very much. In fact, I will be coming through your town in September with my entire family if you want to grab a meal somewhere.

It's interesting how families in developed economies have fewer children than those in developing economies. Frankly, if there is a problem, the solution appears to be for the economies to grow.

That's certainly a nicer fix than any of the state-directed ones, right?

I thnk I'm busy this September. Seriously, though. This isn't about hating each other. If you treat your wife, kids, and pets right, don't patronize cock fights, and don't sell drugs to kids, then I consider you to be a decent human being. We do disagree - strongly - about the role science and religion play in responding to our challenges.

And as for religion - you really are off on your analysis of my attitudes. I was raised a Southern Baptist in West Texas. My family was typical of other Southern Baptist families in the neighborghood. We rarely went to church (mostly weddings & funerals), we drank beer & whiskey (but we bought the stuff in Wichita Falls where we would be unlikely to be seen by anyone who knew us), we cussed (but not in front of the women), and we bowed our heads at the highschool football games (but we didn't really think God was going to grant our kids victory). I married another good Baptist and we raised a Baptist daughter. We tolerate our differences.

So, no, I have no 'personal hurts' from Christians. I've just come to the realization that God is something we each create in our own image. Religion is fun to argue about but unless its adherents try to use it to lessen liberty, or try to use it to replace science, I have no real issue with religion or the religious.

Peace and prosperity my Longhorn buddy.
