Are the Titans trying to pick poorly?

I like the Chris Johnson pick.

Tenn will finally have a home run threat in the backfield.
other than Vince the Titans had nobody who could outrun a fast linebacker.

another awesome pick! 3rd round pick Hayes was rated as a 7th round pick or a priority free agent.

Put me in the get Vince out of Tenneessee camp.

VelvetMaster:

I confess I don't know much, but would have liked the Titans chances of getting Sweed--or the best WR they had targeted--with their first pick and still picking up Johnson in the 2nd. If not, maybe they could have taken JC or someone else. I don't think they have done well at addressing the serious needs at WR at all.

I became a Titans fan when they drafted Vince, but if they're not going to put any arrows in VY's quiver, then I don't know how they can expect him (and thus the team) to excel.

It seems the Titans' management is content with them being an "also ran" team each year. Maybe they don't ever want to deal with the pressure and media scrutiny that comes to teams (e.g. Colts, Patriots) that are consistently good.

Looks like the Titans front office didn't consult with hornfans. They obviously believe they can win by running the ball and playing good defense. They don't have a flashy big play threat at wide receiver they are gonna ball control teams to death not air it out. There were frankly no elite WR's this year in the draft, theres not going to be a big difference between 1 picked in the 2nd and 1 picked in the 5th.
It may not give Vince pretty numbers but so far it does have them winning.

Admittedly I would like them to have some WR's who could actually catch the ball when it hits their hands.

if they want to pick for defense, they should at least do it the right way and not pick guys that would still be available in later rounds. this may be the first draft I've seen in recent years by anyone.

its not about "labeling them busts". its about reaching. sure you ultimately can't decide who had a great draft until years down the road. although if you get good value out of your picks, you put yourself in the best position to get significant contributions from your draft class.

Since when is Chris Henry such a bust?

He was a rookie last year. He actually played decently when given the opportunity..

He has explosive speed, just not enough chances to show what he can do.

They drafted Lendale with their Round 2 pick in 2006.
They drafted Chris Henry in Round 2 in 2007.
And they drafted the ECU guy in Round 1 in 2008.

It's like Matt Millen is running that team...

From what I've heard Johnson isn't just a combine wonder. He's a guy who could potentially be a Michael Westbrook type player and end up being VY's #1 receiving option.

It's a shame they couldn't grab one of the big name receivers in the 2nd round though, thats for sure.

I am sure that is the hope. However I read he never produced until his senior year.

I am not sure but I think BW was a 3rd rounder. It just seems the Titans do nothing but reach and hope. I mean you keep swinging for the fences eventually you will hit a home run, but mostly your just striking out.

Michael Westbrook sucked ***. He quit football to practice yoga and try to be a MMA guy. Brian Westbrook is the Eagles badass, which is who I hope you meant.

I'm telling you, this Chris Johnson is going to give Vince some more TD passes. little dump passes that go the distance.
Johnson is not a track star. He's a player.

Tenn isn't as stupid as you think. this is actually an elaborate ploy Tenn and Detroit have been planning for years. Now they will petition the league to combine teams with their existing rosters and they will have all the bad *** receivers and TEs in the league on one team!!!! They will also have the league's best QB and a stable of 9 running backs. Forget the fact that neither team has an O-line, its all about running and receiving by committee, at the same time.

Stratemegizing rules!!!
