"We have gotten burned with OOS recruits in the past". I like Texas recruits too, but that is a very non-factual statement. I will go back with you as far as you want to go, but we will keep it fairly current. I guess we got burned on Ricky Williams, Casey Studdard, Lyle Sendlein, Chase Pittman, Bo Scaife, Phillip Geiggar, Chris Simms, Major Applewhite, and now Blaine Irby, Lamarr Houston, also Aaron Lewis? Given time I could get you a lot more. Texas has always made Texas recruits priority, but to say out of staters haven't been good and great contributors just isn't true. The death of one Freddie Steinmark off of a NC team also comes to mind. That era had many; Jim Bertlesen, Robin Sendlein, David Studdard, Mossy Cade, Jeff Leiding, A. J. Jones and the list just grows as you think back. Most of all of these older ones were All-Americans as were some of the younger ones I mentioned too, one a Heisman Trophy winner.

Wahoo- don't let Brantley and Perrillioux color you thinking on this subject. First, they neither signed with us and it can't be proved that it has hurt us all that much. Brantley actually burned himself. That boy is going to get a lot of splinters in his *** at Florida before he gets to play. I named at least 10 great players on another thread on this post that were great players for UT and even one was a Heisman Trophy winner. Don't get me wrong, I would rather we had the cream of the crop Texas players and a whole team of them. However, if and out of state kid wants to come here and he is a stud, why not? I think the big debate on this board is how vigorous do we pursue them? I think the ones in the past have really wanted to come to Texas and there wasn't a "big" pursuit even needed. I think that is what happened with Studdard and Sendlein. Their dads played here. The bottom line is we have been helped a lot more down thru the years by them than hurt by them. If counted by numbers or impact on the program, it is a far greater plus!
