Never liked the movie. Supposed to be a critique of the dark underbelly of American suburbia and it utterly failed, descending quickly into caricature.

The Chris Cooper marine dad - I mean, seriously. You have to be kidding me. He's a marine! An abuser! A racist and Nazi! A gunowner! And a closet homosexual himself! See - that's why he hates! And it all comes to a head (no pun intended) with a misunderstanding straight out of Three's Company.

If you want to offer a political broadside, spare me the cloak of art.

A self-important piece of hype. So naturally, an Oscar winner.

American Beauty has one of the best movie scenes of all time and one of the worst movie scenes of all time.

The worst? Scipio discussed it above - the Three's Company scene.

The best? When Spacey and Benning are getting it on in the living room, and Benning stops because she doesn't want to mess up the Italian sofa. That was so . . . perfect.

As for Grease, it is the first movie I remember going to see at the theater. That movie is an absolute classic.
