AM vs. Texas Again At Rice Regional

NBHorn7

Pimp Daddy
Oh what an ironic season we have now for our Horns.
It comes down to Texas and A&M for a Regional Title on Rice's field.

Either Texas wins one of these games and sends Aggy back to the SEC with yet another reason who was boss then and now or......

Well let's not think about that at all.

Texas has all the advantages for this game. I think they are the home team tonight and have a starter left in Lukas Schiraldi.

I have no idea who A&M has left to pitch, will have to see.

It has been tweeted that the game will start at 7:48.
I am waiting for the line-up card to come out.

GO HORNS! BEAT AGGY

So for a second night in a row Augie heads for the eateries of Austin on LHN till game time.

Longhorn Baseball tweets the game will start at 8 pm and will be on LHN and ESPN2. Neither of which I get in HD unfortunately.

Texas will be the visiting team in the game.

The starting pitchers will be Lukas Schiraldi for Texas and Tyler Stubblefield for A&M.

Marlow leads off against left hander Tyler Stubblefield.

He steps in left handed against the lefty and K's looking for one down.

Gurwitz bats second tonight from the right side in orger change and K's swinging for two away.

Payton bats lefty with two away and the bases clean.
He looks to extend his record 97 game on base streak.
And for the millionth time on Mark the count goes full.
He walks and make it 98 games now.

One on and two down for Barrera.
He steps in from the right side.
Another walk puts two on.

Carter bats with two down and two on.
Childress out from the dugout for a chat.
He leaves and back to action.

He steps in righty and a liner to left is caught to retire the side.

Schiraldi to the mound trying to make it a scoreless first inning.

Schiraldi, the right hander on the hill for Texas.

He faces Blake Allemand, the shortstop.
He bats lefty and walks for a lead runner.

Ryan Birk, the DH bats lefty with one on and no outs.
The runner goes and is gunned down a strong throw by Barrera for one away.

Birk walks now to put him on with one down.
Schiraldi doesn't have command yet.

The first baseman Cole Lankford bats lefty with one down and one on.
Then an easy grounder to short is a 6-4-3 double play to retire the side.

One inning played in this first and hopefully last Championship Game and it's 0-0.

Stubblefield out for his second inning of toil.

He faces Hinojosa leading off batting righty.
A chopper over the pitcher and not handled by the shorstop is an infield hit and a lead runner.

Shaw up lefty and lays down the bunt and Hinojosa stands at second.

Clemens bats lefty with one down and one on in scoring position.
He flies out to center and on the play Hinojosa tags and goes to third.

Johnson batting down in the order tonight comes up with a chance for a clutch hit to put the Horns up.
He lines one to the gap in right center for a double that plates a run.

Texas leads 1-0.

Johnson responds to being moved down in the order.

Marlow up at the top of the order to try and put a crooked number on the board.
He pops to short to retire the side.

Texas draws first blood and leads 1-0 to the bottom of two.

I just remembered that Ben Johnson played QB at Westwood High here in the Austin area. Kid was a real good QB at the high school level.

Schiraldi back out for the second and faces the third baseman for A&M, Logan Nottebrok.

He steps in righty and the count runs full.
He throws one over his head for ball four and another lead off runner.

Still no command for Schiraldi.

The right fielder Nick Banks steps in lefty with one on.
A sharp liner goes to center to Payton for one down.

He has no control on his breaking ball yet and they are sitting on his fast ball.

The catcher, Troy Stein bats righty with one down and one on.
A high chop to Gurwitz and another low throw is dug by Clemens to get the out for two down. This is why he is in the line-up.

Patrick McLendon bats righty with two away and a runner at second. He moved up on the prior play.
A soft liner barely evades Marlow and it's a single that ties the game at 1-1.

The left fielder is Jace Statum, batting lefty and he lines another single to right to put two on.

Krey Bratsen, in centerfield bats righty with two on and two outs.
He lines another single to right field and Shaw comes up throwing and gets another outfield assist as he guns the runner down at the plate.

That play keeps the game tied at 1-1 after two played.

Just don't get any warm fuzzies with Schiraldi. Can't shake the feeling that the 'Horns will be playing another one tomorrow. Hope I'm wrong of course.

Stubblefield toes the rubber in the Texas third.

He faces Gurwitz leading off and the count goes full again.
He K's swinging again after fouling off ball four high.

One down for Payton
He singles through the hole on the left side to reach again.

Barrera bats with one on and one down.
Payton is off with a good jump on first movement and steals second easily.

Barrera can now give the Horns back the lead.
A high fly to center is two down.

Carter bats with two down and needs a clutch hit score the run.
He gets it with a liner to right for a single and an rbi.

Texas leads 2-1.

Hinojosa bats with two down and one on and every run is needed tonight so keep the hammer down with the running game.
Another fly ball to center retires the side.

Texas plates a run and leads 2-1 to the bottom of three.

Schiraldi comes back for the third and looks for mastery of his stuff and need to find it quickly.

He faces the top of the Aggy order in Allemand.
He steps in lefty and after a 50 foot fast ball he gets a pop to short for one away.

It's a strange game sometimes.

Birk bats lefty with one down.
A ground ball up the middle is eaten up by Hinojosa for two down.

Lankford bats with two down as Lukas tries to retire the side in order.
He isn't close on four pitches for a walk.

This is different for sure.

Nottebrok bats righty with two down and one on.
Then he blows a fast ball by him to retire the side as the
dychotomy continues.

Three gone and Texas leads 2-1.

Stubblefield on for his fourth inning also has struggled with command, but Texas swung at some bad pitches to help him out.

Shaw leads off batting lefty and a ground ball up the middle is fielded by the shortstop for one down.

Clemens bats with one down and could use a hit badly.
A fly ball to shallow left is two down.

Johnson bats again with a double his first time up.
He swings at one out of the zone high to retire the side in order.

Bottom of the fourth and Texas leads 2-1.

Schiraldi still works for the Horns in the fourth.

Banks leads off against him from the left side.
He swings at one at his shoetops for one down.

Stein bats righty with one down.
He lines a single to left center.

McLendon bats righty with one down and one on.
A wild pitch sends the runner to second.
He comes Skip out and you just can't have this much longer you would think.

McLendon steps back in and grounds to third and Gurwitz throws over Clemenst at first for an error.

That puts runners on second and third with one down on a dead ball out of play.

Now they say he scores on the one and one call to tie the game at 2-2.

With all of the struggles of Schiraldi that really hurts.

Here comes Skip and that is all for Schiraldi.

Pitching change.

With Texas coming from the winner's bracket, why didn't they get home team / bat last? Did they flip? Or is it like taking the kick for the 2nd half of a football game.. maybe Augie took the last at bat for any second game if necessary.

If you cannot get the game elsewise... game cast here....
albeit a fraction behind real time. Command-R for refresh (Mac).

The Link

Travis Duke, the left hander is the new Horn pitcher.

He faces Statum batting left handed with one down and the lead run at second.
The count runs full and he walks him to put two on.

Bratsen bats right handed with one down and two on.
He K's looking for two away.

The top of the order is Allemand with two down and two on.
He turns around and bats right handed against Duke.
He K's him swinging too and that retires the side.

The big error means an unearned run ties the game at 2-2 after four.

Schiraldi has been that wild most of the time. Only a handful of games were better.

And now...Certainly, Duke is Duke.

Stubblefield out for the fifth.

Texas needs to get to him and get into that taxed bullpen.

Marlow, at the top of the order leads off from the left side.
A ground ball to second is one down.

Gurwitz up looks for an atoning hit to get a rally started and get that run back.
He pops out foul to first for two down.

Payton bats and has been on twice in two at bats.
A fly ball foul is caught on a sliding catch by the left fielder to retire the side in order.

We are making this guy look to good.

Halfway through this possible title game and tied at 2-2.

This game has given me the feeling that the team is playing for tomorrow, no killer instinct or desire to win this one.
Hopefully aggy will crash from their high of the first elimination game and Texas can either turn this game around or finish them off tomorrow

Duke comes out for his first full inning of work.

He faces Birk leading off batting lefty.
A sharp ground ball takes a wicked hop and goes by Clemen for a lead single.

Lankford bats lefty with one on.
This field is in bad shape, don't they drag it after top of the fifth?

Now a balk is called and the runner goes to second.

Lankford back in and a fly ball to left does not move the runner and it's one down.

Nottebrok bats righty with one down and the lead run at second.
A fly ball to center is two down as the runner tags and goes to third.

Banks bats from the left side with two down and a runner at third.
He slaps a single to left center and A&M leads 3-2.

Stein bats with two down and one on.
He K's him swinging to retire the side.

After five now A&M with the lead 3-2.

The key for a game tomorrow or tonight for that matter is to get into that bullpen soon.

Stubblefield is mowing us down as the sixth starts.

Barrera leads off from the right side.
A full count is reached before he again fights off ball four.
Count still full and this time he takes it down for the walk.

Carter up and I guess he will bunt and he does and sends Barrera to second.

Hinojosa has the first chance to tie the game.

Sorry I had an internet failure and I know Clemens made the last out to retire the side.

A&M leads to the bottom of the sixth 3-2
