AM recruiting

tmtamu, you certainly may be right, but if you guys don't actually start winning some meaningful games, your hour or so in the limelight will quickly fade. I would say this year could be a "make or break" year for A&M. If you go out and lose 4 or 5 games, then it is going to look like you can't really do anything with all the talent. I would not at ALL be surprised to see you lose that many games, particularly with the defensive talent you have lost to arrests, graduation and future losses that are likely (I have in mind Stansbury). The bottom line is that so far you guys have been a paper tiger save one year when you had what would have been your best year in 20 years, but what was average for us for about 10 years.....yes, AVERAGE. I understand that you guys are excited, but at this point, you haven't done anything very impressive. This last year was fairly Unimpressive considering the talent you had and now you have to try to rebuild at several key positions.

If I were a betting man, I would say at the end of next season, our records are virtually identical and the shine comes off of A&M and young players see Strong building something that will last.

And yet another possibility is that these 4 and 5 star players are overrated and based on Rival history only half of them will produce. And another possibility based on Aggy history is at least ten of them will be arrested and miss playing time and another possibility based on history of Aggy is you will never finish a season ranked number one.

I agree that this season will likely be a step back to the 8-4 range. For as much talent as Sherman left on the O-Line, he didn't leave anything on the D-Line. It's going to be another year before the 2013-2015 guys can start producing, but Sumlin has been bringing in the talent by the truck load.

I don't think an 8-4 record kills A&M's momentum. The guys that are committing now have even said as much. The allure of the playing in a brand new stadium with brand new locker rooms and playing big games against Alabama, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina all the while getting to stay close to home will keep the momentum going.

I expect things to take off starting with the 2015 season.

But anything can happen.

What mop said is right on. In the sec aggy has won 1 big game in 2 years and that was a gift from Saban. Granted JF won the Heisman and that will help them for awhile. At quick glance I see them losing 4 out of their 5 tough games and have 4 automatic non-conference powder puff wins.

The escalation of off-the-field trouble for Sumlin's program is not liken unto a contusion as regards a lack of control. Hemorrhage is more apt. And you can't outsource the instilling of character and integrity, it has to come within the program.

Johnny Football mania having run its course, time will tell what recent revelations have on recruiting as it concerns families sending their sons to a college football program to (hopefully) prepare for life.

From BON:

In the last week, three prospects with offers from Texas committed to A&M -- five-star quarterback Kyler Murray from Allen, four-star wide receiver Kemah Siverand from Cypress Ridge, and three-star defensive tackle Kingsley Keke from George Ranch.

But what you're overlooking and omitting is the speculation (from the DMN, for one) that getting a 5* qb could have some other commits re-thinking what their future really is. It's nothing new, but let's put all the factors into the equation.
