am i mistaken?

i went to request season tickets (knowing i probably won't get them since i'm not in LF), and they wanted to take the money out of my account right then and there. So that means if I just want to request tickets that I probably won't get I will have $770 taken out of my bank account for God knows how long? What's up with that?

Yea, I don't understand why any organization would want money up front so that they can plan and accommodate more than 80,000 other people. Weird. You can always wait until the end of August and see how that works out for you

Taps, it was just a question. I don't see why they can't just hold onto my credit card number since i'm not even a LF member. It seems like more work to take it out of my account and then have to give it back later when my request can't be filled. No need to be an *******.

So they hold on to a good sized sum of money for a couple of months, right? Just about 3. I wonder if they have it in an account gaining interest. If you average say, 500 bucks times a certain amount of seats in the thousands and thousands, that is not a bad little chunk of change. Change that the owner of that money does not get benefit of.

Win-win for the Athletics Dept., as usual. Sure Joe Public, we will work with you as long as we get to get over on you.

its more like $770 x 75,000 deposits (estimated) = $57,750,000. That amount is easier to turn a dime on in 3 months.

similar principle to lenders holding escrow money all year. it benefits them both in that they know the money is there to be used when required, and they get to make some coin off of it in the meantime.

classic texas taps obtuse response.

it sucks that this is the way they operate on these ticket sales. deposits with no reasonable guaranty of efficacy kind of suck.

That would be the good way to turn profit, taps. To actually multiply it by the number of deposits you receive, not just one. You are welcome.

Loop is exactly right about the fact that the University demands money upfront so they can depposit that money and earn interest on it.

If you don't get tickets, they refund it to you, but theyget to keep that 3 months (or so) of interest.

It's a big f-ing scam, and it just goes to prove how much of a bloodsucker the UT athletic department is.

Seller's market. Wait till we have a mediocre team for 4 straight years and then the athletic department will be holding those tickets until opening day for anybody who claims they will buy them. Do what you have to. Do what you can.

you guys have a lot of time on your hands. Seeing as I'm a recent grad without a job yet I'll probably just buy from students. I saved my ID. I'll become an honorable LF member when I can afford to.

Not only do they hold the money for the extra season tickets that will be refunded, there are the thousands of OU tickets that are ordered that cannot be filled, and when aggy is in College Station, the same situation. The Foundation holds this money for several months before issuing a credit card refund to your account.
I am sure they make a tidy sum off interest on this money, while we are out there paying our credit card bills. If you don't pay it all in one month, which some people cannot do with a few thousand extra for football season tickets and away games thrown in, you will pay a lot of interest on that money, then get part or all of the original sum credited back to you-
another minor irritant where the fans are not #1.
All these things add up to some real negative feelings toward the administration of the athletic department over the years, if you can't overlook them. I try, like everyone else, but getting viewed as a walking wallet gets old.

I guess I am in the minority here but I don't really have a problem with this.

While I certainly am not sure of this, I can't imagine we are the only school or sports team (like the NFL) that has this policy. We may be unique from the standpoint that not every team sells out the season, but I would be very surprised if most organizations do not request the money be paid in advance.

For us this year think about the situation....we have new season ticket holders, we have people displaced last year that need to be reseated and we have some number of people requesting upgrades. The athletic department/LHF has a lot of work to do over the summer to allocate tickets corrrectly. I don't blame them for wanting payment in advance so that nobody changes their minds. I don't have a problem with them wanting to know exactly how many applications and requests they have in advance and know that payment has been made. It seems reasonable to me.

However, I will say that refunds could probably go out sooner especially regarding OU and popular road games. And yes, if non-LHF members have requested tickets that the athletic department knows can't be filled (because of the total number of new applications), the athletic department could probably get those refunds out sooner than they do. But payment in advance still seems correct to me.

Ya... I've always heard the Athletic Dept. operated on a "shoe-string" budget and was struggling to stay in the black!! The Bd. of Regents need to re-direct some of the PUF allocations....

But then again, I've never been one to subscribe to the 'ticket give-away' theory either!
