This should be an awesome game. Both teams play a lot of players—A&M has a nine player rotation although seven others are available. Texas uses all ten players on the roster. Both teams like to run and play pressure defense. Texas makes more 3s per game (7.2 to 4.8) than A&M although A&M has the better 3pt percentage (42.6% to 37.8%). Both are strong rebounding teams with Texas having a slight edge (44.9 to 39.6). A&M is a shade better at stealing the ball (11.2 to 8.9). Texas blocks a bit better (6.4 to 5.8). Both move the ball around to the open shooter. Texas has a height advantage inside with Ashley and Cokie. Neither is as offensively skilled as A&M’s Adams.
Horns will have to be very much aware of A&M’s ability to hit 3s. They have several players that Texas can’t leave open. A&M can’t focus on stopping Kat from BTA because three others can hurt them. And at least two of those three are on the floor most of the time with Kat.
These two appear to be very similar in how they play and the results in the stats. This game will turn on which team can bear down defensively for the longest period and which one can get and convert open looks. It’s the first game of the Big 12 conference. With the strength of the Big 12, defending the home court is very important. Texas will be looking to do that, A&M will be looking to steal a road win. Should be an exciting game.
The game will start at 5 pm, after the men finish taking on Colorado at 12:45 pm. The game will be on KVET 1300 AM. It will televisedon the LSN/FSNSW(in Austin-TWC 54/430/432). Hard to believe that the online TW schedule shows that the FSN HD (1639) doesn’t have any programming that day. Not that it matters to me since I will be at the game.
