The Horns are making 43.9% for their FGs. Those four top scorers are also the main 3pt threats with Kat’s accuracy (35-63, 55.6%) making her the top option. She leads the league in 3pt % and is fifth in # of 3s made per game. Brit is getting to the FT line just over 4 times a game, tops on the team. Her 45 made FTs leads the team. Her 78.9% at the FT line is second on the team for players taking at least 10 FTs (that’s 9 of the 10 players). Kat’s 82.9% is tops among those nine (29-35).

Kat continues to lead in rebounding with 7.4 rpg. Ashley is second at 7.2 rpg. Five others average at least 3 rebounds per game. Ashley’s 3.1 bpg is second in the league. This should be an awesome game. Both teams play a lot of players—A&M has a nine player rotation although seven others are available. Texas uses all ten players on the roster. Both teams like to run and play pressure defense. Texas makes more 3s per game (7.2 to 4.8) than A&M although A&M has the better 3pt percentage (42.6% to 37.8%). Both are strong rebounding teams with Texas having a slight edge (44.9 to 39.6). A&M is a shade better at stealing the ball (11.2 to 8.9). Texas blocks a bit better (6.4 to 5.8). Both move the ball around to the open shooter. Texas has a height advantage inside with Ashley and Cokie. Neither is as offensively skilled as A&M’s Adams.

Horns will have to be very much aware of A&M’s ability to hit 3s. They have several players that Texas can’t leave open. A&M can’t focus on stopping Kat from BTA because three others can hurt them. And at least two of those three are on the floor most of the time with Kat.

These two appear to be very similar in how they play and the results in the stats. This game will turn on which team can bear down defensively for the longest period and which one can get and convert open looks. It’s the first game of the Big 12 conference. With the strength of the Big 12, defending the home court is very important. Texas will be looking to do that, A&M will be looking to steal a road win. Should be an exciting game.

The game will start at 5 pm, after the men finish taking on Colorado at 12:45 pm. The game will be on KVET 1300 AM. It will televisedon the LSN/FSNSW(in Austin-TWC 54/430/432). Hard to believe that the online TW schedule shows that the FSN HD (1639) doesn’t have any programming that day. Not that it matters to me since I will be at the game.

On our home court....and with Coach G working on switching up the defense (man to zone) at unexpected times, the Horns win this one!!!!!!

We NEED this game!! My prediction is that AT and Brit take the Horns to a big win!!

Ditto to the above and Kristen and Kat continue to master their hi/lo game. I love to see them work together.

SA News story is not really about UT vs A&M but does have thumbnail sketches about UT and A&M and how they can counter Griner.

This is a critical game for us. We need to break the losing streak against the Aggies which is getting old. Also the 1/2 point for the State Farm compettion is needed especially with the game in Austin. Give an extra yell for us Bab that can't be there. GO HORNS! FIGHT AND WIN!

Good story from the AAS on Erika.

I thought when she signed that we had signed the PG for the next four years and that her shooting was a great bonus. Glad she getting to display her range of skills in the game this season.

Using Jeff Sagarin's rating,
A&M has a score of 92.96.

Texas has a score of 88.37, add 4.14 for being the home team, and the final score is 92.51.

A&M is favored by 0.45 of a point.

Should be a nailbiter, but we knew that!

I think we match up well. Our post players have to win their interior matchups and not get into foul trouble . . .

Our posts have been playing well without fouling this season. Cokie has fouled out once and Ashley only came close to fouling out against UConn. Neither Kristen nor Earnie have problems with fouling as hard as they play.

Crossing my fingers that they continue to play well without fouling as that would give us a big boost.

OK: I did not see the game. What happened? The Aggies have now won the last 6, at least . . . I thought the team was getting better. Out rebounded, out-quicked, out hustled is what the box score suggests. What else and what can be done?

I remember watching the Lady Longhorns in the 80's and thinking... wow! Then I came to school here in the early 90's when things started going south. I look at this team now and think... we are not very good. If this team does not focus, they could easily miss out on the NCAA tourney. They were completely (again) out matched today. What is it going to take to get back to at least competing for the Big 12? I know it's early but damn, that was embarrassing.

This same scenario has been playing out with A&M the last 3 years or so, though not quite as extreme as today. It's getting to be really predictable. We spend the first half in a state of shell shock from A&M's superb pressure and athleticism. They seem a lot quicker and more athletic than us, and we just freak out. Interesting how this happens over and over. They make us look worse than UConn or Tennessee does. Are they really that good? I think the Aggies are going to have a run deep into the playoffs.

Blair has Coach G's number, it's been no contest. Aggroids are not only coached better but also quick & more athletic. I feel good that our girls will bounce back but this is getting old.....

Way too old. The saddest part is Blair has had the exact same game plan for 3 years now. Our players seem to be surprised and lost in a fog for the first 20 minutes every year. Our coaches seem to have no clues on how to prepare for the first 12 minute onslaught.

can we please NOT start this onslaught of our team and coaches after the first conference game??!!!

heck, BU lost, KU lost. the big 12 is BRUTAL. as fans, we should take this loss, look toward the next game, and give support.

I agree, let's just move forward, and support this team. It is what it is. They will have better games, they may not. Through the ups and downs, they are my team and I'll go up and down with them.

I did see some good things, I liked the aggressive play of Ashley Gayle. She showed fire in the gut last night, and this team needs that. I thought Lauren Flores got some great experience and she looked better under pressure than I expected. She had a great drive and kick out to a 3 point shooter (can't remember who) and I think the 3-pointer went in. We need more of that (penetrate and kick out). Kristen and Cokie had no turnovers under extreme pressure, that's very important - especially for Cokie, who is just learning the speed of the college game. Despite the loss, there were some positives. I'm sure the team will absorb the lessons of yesterday and move forward. I want to do that too. We have a TOUGH game on Tuesday in Nebraska. They don't have much time to recover and prep.

GO HORNS!!!

Our lack of improvement in every area especially consistency is mind boggling - i was overjoyed when coach G was hired - I thought it was needed because of losing such a legendary coach -but the lack of positive impact now is frustrating - this is her third year- recruiting, teamwork, consistency, and positives about improving are lacking- Blair plays Jody's style - if coach g wants to play her aggressive trapping style- we must be more athletic - we are not athletic at all - we looked worse than a high school team yesterday - I hate to say this, but one more year to major improvement or changes need to be made

Recruits live in a what have you done lately mentality- the longer we take to at least show potential of getting better the further behind we get- does it a coaching change is needed- I'm not sure, but you sure have to at least look at the possibility - remember Louisville was in the championship game last season and Texas went out in the first round- that's how for we have fallen and how for we have to come- not to mention just the loss of interest in the program if improvement isn't shown - and then there is economics, etc - there should be major cause for concern about the pattern being set - I hope it can change because i like the coaches and they have been very nice and professional when approached
