Alabama ahead of Texas? Why?

Alabama beat Arkansas by 35 points, and we beat them by 42 (should have been 49), and yet they're ranked ahead of us? Why? Anyone who has been watching football from day one knows Georgia was overrated from the beginning. Alabama is good, but to jump us shows you that the wacky polls have not changed, and we're getting little respect.

Answer: Beat CO, OU, MO, OSU and Tech and we'll remove all the bias from the polls in the end.

Yeah, you're right.

Beating FAU, UTEP, and Rice is much better than beating Tulane, Clemson, and Georgia (in ******* Athens).

So we beat Arkansas by more but they have a major victory on the road vs UGA. And we beat Rice at home?

Someone always has to complain. Usually its when the voters refuse to let teams jump other winners even though they have the better win. I have no problem with Bama jumping all the way to 2.

Polls mean nothing to us until after we get past OU.

this is absurd. they went to the #3 ranked team in the country and ******* obliterated them, final score notwithstanding. there's no reason they shouldn't be #1, let alone #2.

GA overrated? ok, i'll give you that...but they are still a top 15 team and very talented and Bama just embarrassed them at night in their own house. considering the fact that GA rolled out the black jerseys, i'm not surprised...that **** works 0.2% of the time.

if we beat CU and OU we should be #1, and considering that bama is off on 10/11, we probably will be. LSU has Fla on 10/11 so they could take #1 as well, but if we look good I'm guessing we'll get it. if we follow that with a win over Mizzou it'll be near impossible for any to not vote us #1.

"Polls mean nothing to us until after we get past OU." I'll definitely agree with you there - no sense fussing over it all now - it means little if we don't beat them. I honestly felt we could have beaten them last year if JC hadn't fumbled as we were going in to score after the half. That was a HUGE momentum changer ...

I believe OU will be a tough game, but one we can win (look at USC vs OSU - they had already written USC into the NC game). OU hasn't played much better competition than we have.

We don't have a single win of the magnitude of Bama going into Athens and whipping Georgia's butt, or even similar to Bama's win over (an admittedly overranked) Clemson. Bama has beaten three BCS schools ON THE ROAD (or at least away from home). Our best win overall has been Rice(!) and we've beaten UTEP on the road.

Based on the results on the field this year, Bama has earned a higher ranking. Are they a better team? Maybe, maybe not, but don't complain about everyone else in the polls coasting on reputation (or preseason expectations) and then say that Bama doesn't deserve to be ranked higher than Texas based on performance this year.

It will sort itself out in the end, one way or another. Give it a break for now and quit whining.

oh my

They've been two ranked teams, one of whom entered the season as #1. We haven't played anyone of note.

I can't think of a logical reason why we would ahead of them.

My personal opinions:

Why?

The national perception is:

Both teams have great players.

Mack Brown is a great recuiter.

Nick Saban is a great coach and recruiter.

I'd trade Sherman and Byrne for either one in a New York second!

why does it matter what they were ranked beforehand? just because bama was ranked so low to begin with doesn't mean they're not THE #2 or 3 or 4 team in the nation.

they're clearly better than Texas.

I really have no problem with Bama getting all of this love in the polls. I will take issue with it, however, if we beat #1 OU and don't jump Bama.

If we beat OU, there is a chance we won't be #1, yes. However, if we then turn around and beat Mizzou, I'm sorry, there is no chance they won't rank us #1, SEC bias or not.

Their resume is just better than ours right now, period. They deserve the ranking and we will have our opportunity to answer over the next month.

The only way you would likely know that Alabama is better than Texas is if Texas stunk it up in a game or two this year. Since they haven't, we really don't know who has the better team. If you dominate the bad teams that you play then you still might be better than a team that beats a good team. That said, no one really knows which team is better right now.

Who gives a ****? Really?

Win out and we go to the MNC game as the #1 or #2. That is the ultimate goal. Other than that, beating OU, Tech, and A&M are crucial goals. The last is mostly because I refuse to lose to an inferior team 3 years in a row. Frankly, beat OU, and we can lose to any other Big 12 team (just 1) and still go to the Big 12 championship game to win and guarantee a berth to a BCS game.

At the same time why isn't Alabama #1? Who has ou "sucks" played? If we are going to gripe about our rankings in the first month, we are going to have another long year.

If I didn't have pre-season rankings to go off of & just was ranking teams based on what I've seen at DKR & on TV, my rankings would be:

1) bama - quality road wins
2) ou - total domination of 3 avg teams
3) penn st - same
4) Mizzou - same
5) lsu - big road win; dominating line play
6) usc - despite fluke loss, still most talented team
7)Texas - dominating cupcakes
8) Auburn - sick defnse
9) BYU
10) UGa
