AggyEric Aggressor, come off the ledge...

I recall AggieEric making several comments during his victory lap to the SEC about the best game on our home schedule next year being Mizzou. Well, fuckin' A....ain't Saturday's B/CS result sweet irony?

yup. failure on all accounts.

oddly enough we're a 4 point favorite against kansas state in manhattan.

i dont get that line at all.

I don't know. Aggy has KSU's number. I would not touch that line. I just have a funny feeling aggy is about to jump up and bite the Wildcats.

aggyeric is funny....Kirby Smart, or any self-respecting coach, wouldn't get within 90 miles of the perpetual trainwreck in college station they call HC positions. For being the "best fans in the universe", the aggy borg sure does pour a lot of gasoline on their coaches before they light the match. Texas fans aren't the best when it comes to being content with our coaches, but then again, we don't claim national titles for our fanbase.

Good news, though, I think I heard that Jimmy Johnson was spotted looking at real estate in B/CS over the weekend.

I heard the Olson twins were driving him around since they are about to enroll.

And they were all eating marron carrots while riding in a car powered by cold fusion.

oh i dont know about that.

provided that we are able to pony up the money, i would think that any upcoming coach would be interested in the position.

the problem is that we get in our own way when we're going through the selection process.

i have the haunting suspicion that sherman will still be our coach next year though. which will be just swell.

Joe,

You surely know more about this than me, but two more losses (and potential for more) and I don't see your coach surviving the lynch mob.

I also know most aggy want to believe any up-and-coming or famous coach would look favorably on the maroons, but fact is you were rejected by several of those before getting the Sherminator, and tossing another coach after a short stint will not encourage many to take a chance. That, coupled with all the magnitude that is B/CS makes for a real challenge getting the right guy or big-name guy.

Sorry, but B/CS is pretty crappy. It will still be one of the worst college towns even in the SEC. It might be better than Starkville and that is about it. Granted I have never been to Starkville, so I am giving you the benfit of the doubt.

Knoxville is better
Columbia SC is better
Gainesville is better
Nashville is better
Baton Rogue is better
Tuscaloosa is better
Athens is better
Lexington is about the same
Oxford is about the same
Auburn is about the same
Arkansas I don't know
Starkville I don't know
B/CS is better than Columbia Missouri!!!!!(I am just giving you that one)

it would be 3 coaches in 10 years. but fran got 5 years, and sherm would have gotten four. in my mind that's enough time to put together a program.

take a look at our team...tannehill is a senior, as is fuller, as is cyrus gray. we're not a young team by any stroke this year. perhaps it does take a full 5 to build a team, but i think you can tell pretty clearly whether a coach is going to "get it done" after year 4. i think it's abundantly clear that sherman is not going to succeed here. maybe that's an emotional statement, but i dont think it is.

and eric aside, i've heard the same thing. sherman was byrne's guy. no one else turned down the opportunity for an interview. tuberville was begging for the job...but we never talked to him. it was always going to be sherman.

i actually feel pretty confident in saying that had we fired fran after the dismal 05 season byrne would have hired sherman then.

Joe,

I think you're right that 4 years SHOULD be enough time at a lot of places. That is the point I am trying to make about the next hire, and how any candidates might feel. I'm not sure, given the history at aggy, 4 years would be what is needed to change the perception by top recruits, and a competent coach might feel the same way.

I also agree Sherm is not the guy, but I thought that when he was hired. Unfortunately the shouts of world domination from B/CS about the NFL coach after the hire was deafening, much like the many now calling for his head....and like what happened to the coach before him.

Now the point about the town is, it seems most aggy want to defend B/CS because they accepted it. Frankly, for most outside the aggy crowd, and certainly someone maybe not familiar with small-town Texas, it leaves a lot to be desired....a lot!

Just two issues that I think might turn off some of the potential guys you want.

Next year when aggy is in the SEC, they'll get to to set their clocks back to 1956. They'll fit in just fine with most of the small SEC cities.

meh. b/cs isnt that bad. when i moved here right after grad school i thought it was the worst town ever...and it was for a single guy. i spent most weekends in houston or austin.

with a wife and kid i kind of appreciate the town. small, quiet, good schools, etc.

but i think we're both biased on either end of the spectrum so i'm not sure how productive this conversation would be. either way, i dont know that b/cs is anything that would keep a coach away.

as for recruiting, we've been able to pull in our fair share of decent classes...our 2012 class should be pretty good. but more than that, i expect a coach to be able to coach players up. perfect example is jim turner our OL coach...he's got a line anchored by two true sophomores at either tackle positions and maybe 1 senior in the mix. the other day we trotted out a guard who was a 2 star project out of navasota...and our OL is performing at a fairly high level. at some point coaches need to demonstrate the ability to coach and develop players. if mike sherman was more of a jim turner, our team would certainly be 8-0.

another example is gundy. they made a living out of coaching up players that didnt receive offers from texas, a&m, or the sooners...and now they're at #2 in the country.

that's what i'm looking for out of a coach, and that's something mike sherman doesnt have.

i have no doubt that there is a coach out there who can recruit players to A&M.
