That's the most polite word I can come up with after the OU game...

Why bother to HAVE a bench if you don't use half of them until the last min of the game?

We were exhausted....and Gail should have used Crystal, & Niqky a LOT SOONER....they scored right away when they came in.

Sorry, folks, but I am now starting to side with Driftwood on coaching "issues"....we should have had this game, too...

It was just flat blown...of course our continuing "bunny bungles" didn't help.....

I know the players must be frustrated; I know I am.

I'm not frustrated in the least - sure I wish we would have won. I think you are right, that Niqky and Crystal might have helped out sooner.

Please let's don't start sniping about Coach G - for pete's sake - she just got here - please let her do her thing. I'm more than willing to give her time - to right this ship and if we're still losing by double digits to Oklahoma in a couple of years, then yeah, I may start sniping too, but not just yet.

I want to savor our coaching staff, the player improvement I see, the great strides I see this team making. I shudder to think what our record would be this year, given all our injuries and inexperience, if not for Coach G and her staff. Did they make mistakes, sure, will they make more, sure - no one is perfect. I just like the direction we are going. I know some of you may not - but I'd rather not air the dirty laundry on the message board, although others may.

I just want to savor the present, whatever it brings. I am so confident in the future.

Oklahoma had a better team. Sorry, but Niqky, Crystal, Kristen, Aubrey, and basically all of the Texas bench with the exception of Kat Nash is terrible. They were not highly touted out of high school and are just average players. Oklahoma has been recruiting better than Texas the last few years and it showed tonight. Robinson was a nice find for OU.

While I agree with you about the future, (It's BRIGHT) I disagree about the "inexperience and injury" excuse......that was the same excuse that got people all over Conradt's case last year...we have LESS injuries and MORE experience this year......

I don't think I was "sniping" at Coach G.....she is great, but I just think today, her decision to not use her bench was not a good one, that's all.....

I think we're all disappointed and aggravated. Let's remember we are rebuilding. New coach, new staff, new defense, new offense - we're starting from scratch folks - I told myself, Cynt breathe and look at the team like they were all freshman. This is helping me get through 07-08 season.

Sometimes we see brilliance and a lot of the time we see fumbled plays, missed free throws, missed chippies. We have to stick with it and support these ladies. No I am not happy about today's game but I'm sucking it up and still supporting our ladies.

This team is no longer inexperienced. That excuse has been exhausted. Maya Moore from UCONN is a freshman and I haven't seen inexperience affect her yet. Angie Bjorkland from Tennessee is a freshman and I don't see inexperience affecting her. We continue to attempt impossible and poor passing...and missing short range shots.

I don't fault Coach G at all in todays loss. I trust her judgement - if the players on the bench would have made a difference, she would have put them in. The team played 30 minutes of pretty good bball - they hung in there with OU when it could have been a blowout from the very beginning. The problem was the last 10 minutes - they stopped defending, they stopped taking outside shots, they basically stopped doing everything that worked for the first 30 minutes. If Coach G felt the players sitting on the bench could offer up some help, I have no doubt that she would have used them. She didn't. And I am fine with that. She stuck with the players who have the best chance of digging us back out of the hole - they just weren't able to get back on track today. I don't think putting in someone from the bench would have changed that.

I am however aggravated with the officials. There were some horrilbe calls today - more than usual!

Aggravated...hmmmm....

You know, I realize that had we won today I would be typing a different tune (as I was after the OKState win), but this team just reguires so much energy and emotion...and I am beginning to get tired. I mean, they're good, but they just are not good enough to pull off more than the occassional upset. I wonder what that is.

Expectations were so high with many of these players and it just hasn't happened or at least it has not been sustained for longer than a game or two at a time. This year is a perfect example. We beat Arizona and DePaul and then fall down to Nebraska of all teams. Last season, many blamed the coach. Well now we've got a new one...just as good if not better...and here we are. Missing layups. Dropping passes. No real inside game. No real outside game. Occassionaly Brit will have an incredible game... or Carla... or Ashely but almost never at the same time. Ebay is either up or down. Williams has moments and then fizzes. As does Cook. Game in and game out Kat gives it her all, but she so often looks all alone on the court.

Players have left the program - some by choice and some not. Carla left and came back. With Tiffany we can't make the tournament but then she goes 4th in the WNBA draft. We lose by 1 pt on Baylor's court and then let OU skunk us at home.

We heard from Jody all last season that this team was getting better...would be great. We hear now from Gail that this is a process. Realizing that I don't follow other teams nearly as close as I do this one...how come we seem to be so long "getting there" compared to others? Just wondering...maybe watching the Giants upset the Patriots has me a bit melancholy about this team.

When exactly does the fire under them get lit and then stay lit?

I am not trying to beat up on what I am sure is a fine group of young ladies. I just wonder.... what gives with this group?

My prediction - for what it is worth - is that Texas will be playing deep into the tournament in about two years and most likely not any sooner than that. Unitl then, I will simply be excited to watch what Coach G does to build the program anew.

Good post, WCBBNUT....

I agree we will be kicking some serious A in the next few years..

I, too am puzzled by the lack of consistency, but there it is, and the players are still EXCELLENT.

For the most part, I can tell you why they were not as "gassed". First, we have absolutly no physicality inside. While our coaching staff has done an incredible job in developing Ashley Lindsey, she gives up about 150 pounds to Paris. Not a good match.

Until we get some "size" in the post positions, that can play physical basketball, we will continue to struggle against teams like this. OU scored 52 points in the paint. I think that speaks for itself.

When Mergerson left the team earlier in the year, I figured we would have problems. We do not have size or depths in the post that can contend with these larger physical players. It wears on you.

Coach G has done a terrific job with this group. I saw Kelsey Bone at the game yesterday. Geez, she is huge. Here's hoping we can get some size and strength soon.

I just want to disagree with one of the posters above who said that Niqky, Crystal, and Aubrey were not highly recruited players. That's just not correct. I followed recruiting very closely that year. Niqky verballed early to us, but was highly touted at the various summer camps and high on lists nationwide. Crystal and Aubrey were also highly ranked, though Aubrey had the issue of coming in with the high school injury.

I especially can't figure out why Coach G isn't using Nicky more. She has shown a lot of grit and talent when she gets in. Maybe her surgery recovery is still limiting her minutes. Crystal has never seemed to quite get on track since her injuries, but I'd like to see her get more minutes, too.

we can all wonder what the coaching staff is doing. sometimes i wonder about certain things too. but i'm not getting paid to coach the team. i'm only a fan and not an insider to the program. given this i let whatever moves are being made be whatever they are, as i'm pretty sure there is reasoning (both present and future) behind everything. in the meanwhile i enjoy watching players like lindsey, cortijo, and raven develop. yesterday i saw the old earnie start to reappear.

i see a team that plays with heart, grit, and determination. i see a highly intelligent staff incorporating a mulit-dimensional, complex, and intricate system that, once fully in place, leads to our program turning the corner with no turning back. that is very exciting to me as fan. i'm taking it all in now so that i can eventually look back in amazement.

with the system this staff runs, imagine what players like kelsey bone, cokie reed, and nikki green would be like if they were to join anderson, fontenette, gayle, and flores. it would really be special.

we were lucky to have one of the great pioneers in women's basketball -- an icon -- lead our program to greatness for many years. we are lucky that goestenkors and her staff realize what a special tradition conradt established, and that they came on board to bring that greatness back. it will happen.

Yep, the season has been a bit puzzling. The team played so well against Baylor, it is a shame that the OK game went the way it did.

The interesting thing to me will be, how does the team do when they play teams like Tech, OK, Baylor, OK and OSU a second time? Now that the coaching staff has actually seen the match ups and players in person, how do they change the game plan? As some of the posters have commented, it is a tough go in the paint against the size and bulk of the Paris twins, so what do we do to take their game away?

Even more interesting will be the Big XII tournament. The Big XII has some very good teams . . . I can see NB, OSU, even TX or TX A & M putting together 4 games if they hit a hot streak and get some luck. We only lost to Baylor by 1 and KSU by 3 -

I see Jhasmine Player is out for the season reminding us that injuries play a huge role in this conference. I am sorry to read Player's season is done . . . she plays hard and is always in the mix.

Thanks for that post, Poncho. This team is learning soooo much! I think the newness of all this system shows in these missed free throws and lay ups. Their brains are really busy and sometimes it interferes with their wonderful performance. I'm willing to stick it out, even through the games that are kind of hard to watch!

Have some of you noticed that you are missing your top two scorers from last year (Jackson and Arriaran), not to mention your best three point weapon (Arriaran)?

Did you know at the exact same point last year, the team had a record of 15-7, like the team does this year (again, missing its top two players)?

Now last year, the team went 3-7 down the stretch. I seriously doubt that happens this year.

Just to clarify. I think Coach G is fantastic. I thought Conradt was fantastic. Each has a record that speaks for itself, so I almost never question the coach's decision to play or not play someone in particular even when it doesn't make sense to me.

I also think this is a great group of players. They have proven that they can compete with some of the best. And I understand that the equivilent of what they are currently going through would be my being hired by one boss and then suddenly being asked to work for another. That would be a huge adjustment that could be either good or bad depending on the individual player.

That said, they just confuse me. There seems to be little rhyme or reason to our wins and losses these last few seasons.

Let me throw another question out there: With all the injuries and the "running out of gas" concerns, do we have an issue with our strength and conditioning program?

Always have and always will love my Horns...

As with many it seems, I was hoping for a win Sunday. I wasn’t sure that we could stop the Paris twins, but I had hope that we could keep Plumley frustrated and limit the drives to the basket. We didn’t do the first, Plumley didn’t hurt us from outside, but Robinson, Thompson, and Stevenson got some easy baskets driving to the basket the last 10 minutes of the game.

This was not as good a game as the team played against Baylor. The help against the driver was not as good as against OSU and Baylor, probably because of the Paris twins. The shooting was really bad. I expected better at home but I guess ten blocks has an effect.

OU played seven players for all practically purposes. That’s what they normally play. Off the bench, they had a guard that got 20+ minutes and a frontcourt player that got 20 minutes as usual. The Horns played pretty much the same as they have in all Big 12 games—eight players—a guard (Kat) that got 20+ minutes and two post players that combined for 15 minutes. Fatigue was unlikely a factor in their play. We took more FGs, we took and made more 3s, same with FTs. We simply could not convert the shots we got and they kept on making theirs. That’s why they pulled away and won. We played them even on the boards, mainly thanks to Kat’s awesome work on the boards. We even got 21 offensive boards and tied OU on second chance pts at 19 apiece. We had more pts off TOs (19-13). We were just unable to convert the shots we got.

There’s a lot of good things here. This team doesn’t have the size to bang inside with the Paris twins. What they have is speed and a lot of heart. That heart was evident all game, even if the speed wasn’t. The shots didn’t fall or we would be shooting off flares declaring that UT was back. This team has five away games and three home games left. Nothing is a given but three wins are likely. Three others are probable. I hope for at least five but will take as many as they can get. Post season play is still very much a possibility.

We got three more home games to show how much we appreciate the effort and work both the team and the staff have put in this season which just about everyone considered a rebuilding year with Erika, Earnie, and Carla coming back from injuries and everyone having to learn a new system. We got some good players coming in next season, including a big body in the paint. In 2009, we got an outstanding PG coming in and hopefully more help in the paint. We’re in good shape.

No, I don't think Ashley weighs 120. I didn't even know anybody published player weights for female athletes but I would have guessed more than 240 if I had to guess. My point should have been clear, that there is a large size disparity in that matchup, and if Ashley didn't have very good conditioning she would have been worn out, but she wasn't.

We didn't quite have no inside game since Ashley scored 12 points and we grabbed 21 offensive boards. Now, one post player in double figures doesn't make for a great inside game, but it's not like our guards were lighting it up either. We didn't shoot well or pass well, plus we played matador defense.
