According to Orangebloods we've lost another?

I read an article on a BYU forum where apparently Apo and BYU QB commit Heaps developed a friendship while at some recent camps, which suggests that Heaps' decision to commit to BYU factored into Apo's change of heart. Besides the fact that Apo's chances of recieving some legitimate early playing time were much greater there as oppossed to here. Which I think goes along with what hornlovin is saying. The pieces came together for Apo to go to BYU over the course of the last few weeks, something that was perhaps unforeseeable even for Apo, in regards to the apparent newly delevoped friendship between him and Heaps.

The Link
"Maybe it was a big deal when former 2010 wide receiver commit Ross Apo wore OU shorts to the Palo Alto Nike Camp several weeks ago. Or maybe it was a big deal that he was even there -- the Arlington Oakridge receiver caught passes from recent BYU commit Jake Heaps, a fellow Mormon and the eight-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country. The burgeoning friendship between the two played a big role in Apo's subsequent commitment to BYU, but it was not the only factor."

This business of early recruits changing their minds and winding up somewhere else is not that unusual, and it happens to everyone. It does seem to be cyclical, and truthfully, Texas has been fortunate, given the emphasis on early recruitng, not to have more decommits.

Mack and staff are smart enough to have Plan B in place to fill the slots that opened when Dixon and Apo changed their minds. There are plenty of good players willing to commit to Texas, so yep, the sky is NOT falling. Dixon, moreso than Apo, might have been a good player earlier, but UT's loaded both in the defensive backfield and at receiver.

Actually, the decommitments may provide a reason to regain interest in the recruiting board. Things have been slow around here for the last couple of months...it'll be kinda fun to watch some other players jockey to get the slots given up by Dixon and Apo. It's a shame they didn't keep their commitments, but people change their minds. Good luck elsewhere, except if/when they play Texas. It's too bad aggy doesn't have anybody we really want.

Don't get too excited on this one. I thought it was weird he chose us in the first place - he seemed destined for BYU and they usually get most of the Mormon kids. Big time college football experience competing against some of the best talent vs. smaller stage football environment with a tie to the young man's faith and balues. Not a huge surprise.

Wacker - those were two separate points I was making about BYU being his ideal school. The fact 1) He is of Mormon faith and BYU is very heavy Mormon, and 2) playing time might be important (i.e. will play quicker at BYU than he would at UT). These are aspects BYU could offer that UT really couldn't...

Good luck to both of those guys - thanks for doing this 8 months before signing day and not making asses out of yourselves.

Fritz is right about them decommitting now rather than wait later. At least now we time with the option to either 1. Offer the scholarships to someone else 2. Use them for 2011 or 3. Save them for later years.

I think he just really had a change of heart, which probably had a lot to do with his faith. We'll be ok. I don't necessarily think it's that he's a kid, we all make mistakes as adults. I'm glad that he owned up to his mistake as soon as he realized and didn't drag our program along. Not like that punk Perriloux, which we wasted time and a scholly because of his lies.
