A Shady Speed Trap First ...

Saw something for the first time last night. Anyone else here seen police run speed traps on foot ?

Driving home from the KU game about 11:30 pm ... Manchaca between Slaughter and William Cannon.

There was a cop, standing alone beside a tree on the side of Manchaca shooting radar. There were then 4 APD cars lined along my street, and he was radioing them to bust cars as they passed him.

You could see 2 cars pulled over about a quarter mile down the road towards Slaughter.

Boo that. On foot ? Beside a tree ? What's next, cops IN trees ?

Saw it all the time down I-20 from Ft. Worth to Weatherford. They stare down that sight as if it is the scope of a sniper rifle

straight from 12th grade into junior college
buddy buddy buddy I passed my exam
making me a law enforcement person
got me a badge and a gun I'm a man
radar gun, radar gun.
I'm making money and I'm having fun with my
radar gun, radar gun.

In Florida they would dress up as utility workers and literally go up in those little phone pole crane things to fool you. 'Here's another example.

Along the same lines....does anyone know what the cops in the Arboretum are doing?

In the parking lot of the Starbucks/Williams Sonoma corner. They'll have 3 or 4 cop cars hidden behind the bushes, but 1 cop on foot right at the entrance across from Fresh Choice. Every now and then he'll hop out into traffic and flag someone over into the parking lot. Scares the crap out of me every time I see it.

Don't speed on Manchaca Road. It's only a matter of time before you get caught. They run radar there at least 3 times a week.

Looks like they are getting more creative about it. They usually hide in the Southwest Church of Christ parking lot and shoot from behind the sign.

hmm..I always speed down Manchaca, I better slow down. I always see cops on overpasses radaring with bike cops lined up along the interstate ready to go. They're always around the Slaughter and Onion Creek overpass areas.

Is that healthy for one's eyeball or are there no harmful effects from this

Before I-35 and Ben White was rebuilt, they would put a guy in a lawn chair at the intersection to flag people running the westbound light. They'd line the patrol cars up six deep and sometimes use them all in a cycle.

Plano police would set up with a laser on various overpasses along Central. Their buddies in the cars would be waiting right down the road to write the tickets.

As stated above, this is very common in Houston.
Regular places I see them:

1. Eastbound on San Felipe east of Weslayan
2. Southbound on Durham / Shepherd just north of Dallas St.
3. Southbound 610 feeder south of Woodway
4. Westbound I-10 feeder west of Studemont

My very 1st speeding ticket was on Duval by campus. It was a school zone and I was 8mph over the speed limit. He just pointed at me to pull over. There weren't even police cars to help him. Just him on foot, radar gun in hand, pointing to people to pull over.

They used to have a guy up on the overpass at Yeager (I think it was Yeager, might have been Braker), hitting the northbound traffic. They always had several motorcycle cops ready to go after folks once he caught them speeding.

They were ALWAYS there post-game on game days for years, and may still be.

I live off Manchaca, and I will fight fire with fire.

I shall disguise my truck as a police cruiser. If they wave me down, I'll just give them a blast of the lights and siren and go on about my way.

Yeah, I see a lot of cops on Manchaca. Its so easy to speed down that long straight stretch. One day while delivering I was going 60 (ina 45) and the cop was radaring and he just smiled at me. One of the perks of having that sign on your hood.

I seem to recall there used to be a statute that said a person receiving a speeding ticket for a radar ticket had the right to demand to see the readout on the radar or the ticket would be thrown out if he took it to court.
