Fellow fans:
I write this today with a heavy heart. Despite more than two years of holding on to nostalgia, I have made the difficult determination that it is time to move on. While the 5+ hours of video described below may be gone, they will never be forgotten.
Given the multitude of great deals available on LCD HDTVs, I decided last month that it was finally time to upgrade my household to HDTV. My 37" standard-definition TV, along with impeccable satellite and DVR service from Dish Network, had served me well for a long period of time. However, I was unable to stand idly by while the amount of HD content available, particularly in the sports arena, continued to increase without me taking advantage of it. Accordingly, I purchased a Samsung LCD TV over the weekend, and scheduled my Dish Network HD upgrade for Monday afternoon.
Alas, after doing much research, I came to the upsetting conclusion that, due to the age and incompatibility of my Dish Network 522 DVR, I would not be able to salvage my previously-recorded programs. This meant, of course, that I would no longer have my recording of the Rose Bowl Game played on January 4, 2006, the SportsCenter highlights that followed, or Vince Young's appearance on the Jay Leno show the following night.
So, as of Monday afternoon, I am no longer able to go back and watch those glorious hours, focusing on the final six minutes of the fourth quarter, and all the postgame highlights and interviews. Some will say that I am crazy to have gotten rid of these recordings, and that is understandable. My hope is that one day a high-quality DVD will be available with the entire game, complete with an audio dub of Craig Way's play-by-play and postgame call. Until that day, the memories of that game will only live in my heart.
Thanks for your understanding.
