A-Rod tested positive in 2003

Well, this is disappointing...but I'm not surprised. I wish the Yanks would've let him walk away in 07 after that circus he and Boras put on.

This was also obvious. We can now finally quit all the

"But, but... "his name has never been associated".. And "you can't tell who used, just by looking at them!"

Looks like Jose Canseco is proven right once again.

In 2003, A-Rod led the American League in home runs & runs scored, won his 2nd consecutive Gold Glove, became the youngest player to reach 300 HRs, and was the AL MVP…and the Rangers STILL finished in last place in the AL West. Way to go, Rangers.

The sad thing to me is that the record book for MLB are what is getting tarnished the most, including the achievements of all those men who came before the steriods era. Home runs in particular just dont mean what they used to. If they tested for steroids in the NFL I bet over 50% would be busted.

Seems Rangers had quite a few sluggers on steroids? You could actually tell by looking at the dudes. I am not surprised. Juan Gonzalez looked like a walking steroid.

Dude, Pudge Rodriguez was a friggin walking bowling ball. The guy was so juiced up it was incredible. When he got off the juice he lost 40 pounds and looked lreal sickly. But he got paid a crap load and won a World Series ring so I am sure he won't care that he took 10-15 years off his life.

That sucks. I know that I am a little naive, but stories like this ruin the game for me. I want to believe that this stuff isn't done at the college or high school level, but who knows?

Maybe they should have a separate league where all enhancers are legal. On second thought, probably wouldn't be any different than the current product.

So he tested positive (according to source from confidential testing that is unknown at this time) and hit 47 HR's and had 118 RBI's that year.....Then after that when they started testing he went on to put up these #s:

04: 36 HR, 106 RBIs
05: 48 HR, 130 RBIs
06: 35 HR, 121 RBIs
07: 54 HR, 156 RBIs
08: 35 HR, 103 RBIs (missed 24 games from his career average)

So then is he still juicing? I just don't see his #s being out of this world in certain years compared to the rest of his career like the other cheaters have (McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, etc). If this report is true I think there is a little bit more to the story. He would certainly be tainted by this and it would be a part of his legacy. However I would bet there would be more to come out of this.....either report from ex teammates of when and how much he used....or reports that he only dabbled in it once or twice but it was not something he did for more than a season. He has been a model of career consistency and his body frame has not changed dramaticaly like many of the other steroid guys.

If they test for roids in the NFL then these guys are doing something. High school footall players do roids for crying out loud.

Just because they are illegal, it doesn't mean that the medical community has fully investigated it. Or even barely researched it. Seems to me that they're illegal to keep them away from kids.

You are correct, the 10-15 year comment was a generalization on my part based on my limited knowledge and reading. There is no dispute that roids screws with your heart and brain and extended use of roids can have detrimental effects on both. That, obviously, is not good.

And now he's come clean and admitted his use.

I wish Roger had the courage to step up and admit what's he's done. Allegedly.

Good for him for sacking up and admitting it. Not sure I believe that he has been clean since 2004, but he also didn't have to admit his use in 2001 and 2002.

The most interesting thing at the end of the ESPN.com article was this quote from The Steroid Oracle:

Two thoughts after watching the interview:

1) How can he rip Sports Illustrated for reporting this and at the same time claim "it had to come out" and he wanted to "get the gorilla off my back"? No way he would have admitted this if someone else hadn't outed him.

2) He repeatedly insisted his cheating was confined to the Texas years. He didn't name any names, but phrases like "loosey-goosey culture" and "everyone was doing it" are pretty damning of the Rangers. I mean, that's the clubhouse he was in at the time in question.
