A-Rod in the Hall?

Hall of Shame Yes, that is about it. Too bad also because he was a great player without cheating. Anyone who is known to have used steroids will not get in, if they do they may as well close the Hall because it won't mean anything getting in. His homerun total was greatly increased with the use of steroids.

Anyone even halfway thinking that Bonds and A-Rod are not HOF-ers are kidding themselves, or listening to talk radio that has an off-opinion.

Willie Mays used to drink "energy boosters" before stepping out on the field. Hint: it wasn't coffee.

As others have stated, it takes natural talent for these guys to compete. Taking drugs (or lying about taking drugs) puts a damper on their overall public view. But not enough to keep them out of the HOF altogether.

"Both he and Bonds will be remembered in my mind as guys who put up meaningless numbers and came up small when it counted."

Seriously? Have you seen who else is IN the HOF? Dudes like Don Sutton and Gary Carter and Red Schoendienst don't hold a candle to A-Rod or Bonds, talent-wise, popularity-wise, anything-wise. Just because ESPN calls them no-nothings doesn't mean they actually ARE no-nothings.

I refer to my previous post: McGwire hit for power to the detriment of his all-around game. No MVPs, compared to 3 for A-Rod and 7 for Bonds (3 before the Roids).

I think it's clear that steroids do help you be a better player, elevating borderline to bona fide, bona fide to all star and all star to HOF. The thing that gets lost in this is how widespread steroid use was. While the owners and unions looked the other way, players had to know they were helping themselves and helping their team by getting on the juice. They also knew that a bunch of players on their strongest competitors were on the juice. I've seen plenty of times in all fields of life where rules are in place and poorly enforced. The guys who insisted on being sticklers for the letter of the rulebook weren't the ones getting ahead.
Honest to God, I'm the kind of guy who follows all the rules I can figure out how to follow. But don't kid yourself, the guys who are in the HOF are mostly there because they are or were competitive as all hell. They aren't the ones saying "Maybe the A's beat us, but at least we know we followed all the rules.".
