A-Rod in the Hall?

Some folks seriously believe A-Rod will and/or should get into the Hall of Fame given that he "confessed his sins." I don't see it in my lifetime. At most, he could get 50% in my opinion within 20 years of his retirement, not the 75% needed. McGwire didn't even get 30% and there's not even any hard evidence that he used illegal peds.

I say no, he shouldn't.

I say no, he won't - ever.

As it stands right now, I think he will get in. His "admission" was taylored perfectly for it. Here's why I say that:
1) He admitted to using PEDs. Obviously he wouldn't have admitted to drug use if the fact had not been leaked. He sees how deny isn't working for Mark McGwire and is looking slim for Barry Bonds.
2) He never mentioned what he took. Was it HGH? Steroids? He kept making it sound like it was a supplement from GNC! If voters know what drug(s) he took, they could quantify how 'bad' that is. With the current ambiguity, how can a voter determine how 'bad' his drug use was compared to other players?
3) He claims he never did PEDs before the majors or with Seattle. If he had, then voters would say he needed PEDs to get in the majors and to survive in the majors.
4) He claims he never did PEDs with New York. I think he wants to be always - and only - be remembered as a Yankee. He hopes voters will remember "A-Rod was a Yankee" and "he never took PEDs with the Yankees".
5) He blamed Texas (its players, culture, etc). With the exception of Nolan Ryan, people don't usually put "Hall of Fame" and "Texas Rangers" together.

If it is revealed that he failed drug tests during his time with Seattle or New York, then I think he's out. You can only 'tell the truth' incorrectly so many times.

As for me, I'd vote for Clemens or Bonds before I voted for Rodriguez. If I'm gonna punish those two, I have to punish anybody who possibly could have done PEDs. (Wouldn't that be anyone with Hall of Fame credentials?)

The game of baseball has been sullied by all of this ridiculous Nintendo RBI Baseball home-run numbers put up by a bunch of megalomaniac, narcissistic roid freaks. It is shameful and has really ruined the game for me.

The shame of it is, A-Rod was probably the best in the game without the juice. He didn't need it. Same with Bonds, who I saw here in '83 or '84 playing with ASU, and looked more like Daryl Strawberry's frame than the middle linebacker he turned into.

wait until Robert's book is released, there is some mention of "high school use" and she was quoted as saying that A-Rod would not like what she says. I think it comes out in May.

I'm a voter for the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

I'm looking at this year's ballot and seeing Eddy Furniss' name and feeling the same thing. There's no way that a sizable number of guys on the 90's LSU teams weren't on roids. I'm not even considering voting for him.

I would say no. Along with the other 100+ people on that testing failed list that they haven't released yet.

The problem with a lot of the famous steriod users (McGuire, Bonds, Clemens, etc) were that the allegations really heated up at the end of their careers/after they retired. A-Rod still has several years left to play. If he can continue putting up big numbers and possibly win a WS, then I think he will be in the Hall no problem at all. America has a short attention span (see Texas football, 2008) and they will forget about it once he wins a championship. I'm not saying he SHOULD get in, but I think he WILL.

A-Rod is in for sure. As are Bonds and a handful of other current sluggers.

Sosa and McGwire won't make it because their entire careers were associated with one mini-era of cheating. Other than the Roids, Big Mac is associated with being a gimp and hitting solely for extra bases to the detriment of his average. His Oakland numbers (other than slugging) sucked balls until 1996.

A-Rod and Bonds have other things going for them.

I didn't say he wasn't a power hitter. I was saying he was a power hitter to the detriment of his all around game. I noticed you left off his batting average for all of those seasons.

Dude was obviously using whatever performance enhancers he could sneak back then as well, considering he'd miss parts (or almost all) of some seasons with tweaked injuries. Once he finally got some of the coordination down and a change of scenery, the record was as good as his.

not getting into a pissing match with you, but he missed an average of 10 games a year until 1993. come on.. dude played through pain. Look at his later stats, he rarely missed games. Out of 16 seasons, he missed significant time in only 4.
Yes, he was juicing, no doubt.
I read an article from a guy that supposedly supplied him. indirectly In his opinion he didn't do juice to get big, he did it to heal from injuries.
His 162 game average I will take any day.

I don't know and I don't think I will be watching baseball for awhile. Like the Tour that I have boycotted the last couple of years.

Absolutely. Steroids do not make you a better ballplayer. "Performance enhancing" is a media created phrase and is an absolute falsehood.

I think they make you stronger. That can improve bat speed and can turn those 390 feet warning track outs into home runs, routine fly outs into ground rule doubles. All things being equal, strength can help you hit the ball harder and further.

ARod is still 10+ years away from a HOF ballot. By then, we will all have a better idea how steroids can affect HOF ballots. Especially when guys like Clemens and Bonds have already been on the ballot. And by both of them, I mean guys who would be first ballot locks if the whole steroid issue wasn't involved. ARod will pretty much fall under the same category.

Mr. Chokie McChokeChoke get into the Hall of Fame?

Maybe in the April through August Hall of Fame. Both he and Bonds will be remembered in my mind as guys who put up meaningless numbers and came up small when it counted.

The very idea guys like that would be considered the equal to clutch leaders like Ruth and Aaron is disgusting. They are losers and competitive midgets.
