A pretty detailed & damning report on Urban Myth

Informative and BRUTAL

This is worse than I thought it was. Urban's lying and lying about his lies are inexcusable and ridiculous.

Say what you want about the punishment for Urban's failure to do the right thing by Courtney Smith, but how can Ohio State give a 3 game suspension when Urban still won't come clean? You can't start to make amends when you are still lying about your conduct.

That article was written like a thread of drunk tweets.

1. Meyer lies
2. OMG! Here's another pun about him being a liar! How could anyone trust this man around children even though he always lies?
3. Repeat steps 1-2.

11, isn’t focusing on the manner in which the article was written, or how well it was written, missing the point? To me it’s sort of like blaming the messenger. Now, if any of the contentions can be discredited, that’s another story.

My issue with the article isn't that it has damning information about Meyer, it's that he's pretending to have some kind of leg-up on everyone else who read the report by turning it into a bunch of silly catch phrases. He has literally the same information as every other media outlet. But instead of treating it for what it is, he breaks it down LINE BY LINE and tries to turn each "offense" as if it's separate but equally-mockable instance.

One example:
"The lies were legion and indefensible. Urban Meyer read a statement like he was a hostage in a proof of life video."

He's turning Meyer's non-apology statement into some kind of Ollie North or Watergate-level offense.

"Investigators, go figure, were unable to find any text messages on Urban Meyer’s phone that were more than a year old. Amazing."

So you really thought he was dumb enough to leave them on there? Tom Brady got his slap on the wrist for doing this, and Urban Meyer got his slap on the wrist. This is nothing new.

"Furthermore, if Meyer really can’t believe things from three years ago, how is he being paid to make decisions on a football field in high pressure situations? How can he even remember the team’s plays?"

Oh come on.

I'm the least likely of tOSU supporters. I wish they would lose every week forever and ever after my interactions with their fans from 2005-06. When they play Akron, I literally become an Akron fan, and I couldn't care less about Akron. But this article over-sensationalizes what EVERYONE already knew about Urban Meyer, as if he's going to open the floodgates for more criticism/investigation of the guy. His nickname was Urban Liar in UF. His "retirement" was shrouded in a cloud of lies.

Any attempt by Ohio State coach Urban Meyer to eliminate work-related text messages on his university-issued phone to hide information would be illegal, open records experts said following a two-week investigation into his handling of domestic violence allegations against an assistant coach.

Ohio State suspended Meyer for three games after investigators concluded he mishandled Zach Smith’s repeated professional and behavioral problems and instead protected his protege for years through domestic violence allegations, a drug problem and poor job performance. Among the many questions raised by the investigation into the highly successful coach of the fifth-ranked Buckeyes was how he responded when the story broke.

Is this like the Hilary email server thing? He's a government employee?

This would be like Al Capone finally getting prosecuted...for cheating on taxes.
Though I'm sure they would both say they were persecuted instead of prosecuted.

Even if Urban got fired at OSU, Jerry Jones would probably hire him to be the Cowboys coach next season, after he fires Jason Garrett. A coach of his ability isn't going to go without a job.

Does Urban Meyer = Barry Switzer?!? I don’t really have an opinion and probably a stretch comparison. I doubt Meyer is enabling gun & drug trafficking. But I will say there’s plenty of Switzer-like smoke surrounding him....and same enabling fan base, etc.

Does Urban Meyer = Barry Switzer

No, NO, & HELL NO!

I would trust Barry with one hundred cents of my last dollar in a business deal. I wouldn't trust Urban Myth with five cents of my last fifty million.

Not to mention that I've never known a coach that cares more about his players than Switzer did and does. Myth is a narcissistic piece of **** that would throw any player under the bust to make himself look better.

Whoa Sabre....tell it like it is!!! I never said BS didn’t care about his players or is not trustworthy in a business deal. What I’m associating is the ‘win at all cost’ culture....lie, cheat, cover-up, spy on your competition, look-the-other-way when you have criminals on your team, etc.. Sorry, Switzer is not in my top 25 of revered coaches. Have a few tequila shots & :hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem::hookem:!

I don't give two shits in a sock how much you'd trust him with your money. As head coach at OU he was a lying cheating 20 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag.

Yes.

And as a coach, he owned our *** with the exception of the Akers' years. Fred was 5-4-1 against Barry without cheating. Not sure any other coach that played Switzer ten times can match that record.

How do you feel about Scott Hill?

Don't know much about Hill other than he was a high school QB who played DB at OU. My understanding is Luscious Selmon was the numero uno when it came to sleazbag recruiting for them. He was the lead guy for the likes of Marcus Dupree and Johnny Hector. That's about it.

Scott wanted to go to Texas. His dad had gone to Tech, but passed away around the time that Scott was in HS. His mom remarried a man that was later a friend of mine. DKR and Joey Aboussie (sp) so totally ****** up Scott's visit that he wasn't in Austin half an hour until he was ready to go back to the Metroplex. That event strongly influenced Scott's recruiting techiques. Guy was a helluva athlete. He denies it, but I have always thought he was the genius behind Barry's recruiting.

I don't know what Selmon had to do with Dupree, but I was told directly that Scott got the critical info that allowed Barry to sign Dupree. It was a number of years before I was told the truth.

To my knowledge, Selmon had nothing to do with Hector, that loss was on Jerry Stovall. Stovall had a coach sitting outside Hector's house to "guard" him when RC walked in took him out the backdoor, hid him for nearly two weeks until national signing date, when he signed with A&M. (If that sounds familiar, see also Bubba Bean.) Never forgave Stovall for that. I always thought Lynn Amadee figured into that deal with RC, even though Amadee went to LSU, he was a big enough piece of **** he would have negotiated the kid for a job or cash.

In the book "The Courtship of Marcus Dupree" written by UT grad Willie Morris it says Selmon basically lived in Philadelphia,MS for about 3 weeks to get Dupree to sign. To be fair so did Tommy Reaux for us.

Once Scott produced the vital information, nobody needed to babysit him, the deal was done, and Marcus had no choice but to go to the school that he really didn't like.

Ask Akers who called him at home on a Sunday night to tell him Dupree was "gone".

In fairness, I have never read the book you referenced, mostly because I've never heard of it, I know the truth, and no author or tv producer would dare report the truth.

Saw Marcus in a business meeting in 08 or 09, and he was a little bit rotund.

Okay. Morris was born and raised in Mississippi and the author of many books. If I may ask what would be the harm in revealing what you know now. Is it a stuate of limitations not having expired yet or did you swear a blood oath or something else. I don't need specifcs but just generally why does this rise to a trilateral commission need for secrecy?

If Morris is from Mississippi, then he should know the truth, or he isn't much of a writer and chose fiction over the truth to sell books. Probably not much of a swimmer either. My money is, he never knew the truth, doesn't have the ability to get it. I believe if he had it, he wouldn't write it.

Unfortunately for Willie he died at least 20 years ago. Not much of a swimmer? Okay now it's a party since we've gone cryptic. Did Dupree stand idly by while somebody drowned? Am i getting warm?

No, Marcus played no part in the issue. He was just a pawn, whom I believe knew nothing about what was going on. Nobody drowned in this situation, although I understand Mississippi has its own sinister swamp stories.

I am still mystified as to how Switzer found out, and he won't say. Like I said, it took me years to find out, and then only because mine was not a direct question. I just wanted to know what happened to cause friendly conversation to suddenly turn ice cold for no obvious reason.

I honestly don't know if Selmon knew or not. I never dealt with him, and he would have no reason to talk to me about it.

Bottom line, we lost a great RB, who loved Austin, Texas, and I think would have prospered as a Longhorn. Instead, he was miserable in Norman and as a Sooner, but then we've had several of those; Bill Jones comes to mind.

You're mystified how Switzer found out? Earlier you said Scott Hill got the information. He was on Switzer's staff but didn't share it with Barry? Fine by me. Good night and good luck.

I have always thought Scott got the information for Barry, I just don't know how for certain. Scott won't tell. All I got was why my phone calls suddenly got frosty. I have suspicions as to how he obtained the info, but don't know for sure. I respect Scott Hill and wish he had been a Longhorn, but DKR didn't do the indepth research before bringing Scott to Austin. That's why Scott became a master of information gathering on recruits.

Well, if it's a Hilary email server thing then this thing is done, it will never really be investigated and we'll continue the search for the "real killers"....
