A nation on the dole

While I prefer "stupid" people to stay home on election days, they are less of a threat than selfish people who vote for politicians that promise them more and more Christmas gifts. It will be the selfish not the stupid that cause America to implode.
 
militaryhorn, yes, 8 years may be fast, but its about average for Navy Nuke ETs. We are E-5 at 2 years, E-6 at 5 years, E-7 by 8-9. It is because so many of us get out of the Navy because of the hardships of being a Submariner. I once had an E-7 Chief who was 27 years old! I have also met E-7s who get 'Early Promotion' status on their evals and make E-7 in 6-7 years! Now, that is crazy!

Trust me, I would not want to trade with anyone who gets shot at, and I have mad respect for you guys.

The military members to make it through 20 years (thus most likely losing years on your lifespan), absolutely deserve the meager retirement they get.

There are so many ways the military can trim down without cutting pay, that to even consider retirement reduction is ridiculous.

I think we're talking entirely different things here. I'm on board with efforts to bring America back to a country with a robust middle class. I just don't think you can do it with government redistrubution.

I think the most (and the minimum) government should do, is to make corporate compensation more transparent to investors, make tax code uniform and simple. If investors had the ability to see and effect what their top execs had negotiated with complicit board rooms, and had the ability to approve the top 5 pay packages in the company, then the investors would change the outsized pay packages we see. I think our country would be much better off if we had a straight forward lower, flat tax rate for corporations. and a simple three tier income tax structure. Do away with all tax subsidies, tax loopholes etc. They pervert and distort the economic decisions of consumers and producers.

If a tax break is truly needed. It needs to have a limited life. 7 years and done.
