militaryhorn, yes, 8 years may be fast, but its about average for Navy Nuke ETs. We are E-5 at 2 years, E-6 at 5 years, E-7 by 8-9. It is because so many of us get out of the Navy because of the hardships of being a Submariner. I once had an E-7 Chief who was 27 years old! I have also met E-7s who get 'Early Promotion' status on their evals and make E-7 in 6-7 years! Now, that is crazy!
Trust me, I would not want to trade with anyone who gets shot at, and I have mad respect for you guys.
The military members to make it through 20 years (thus most likely losing years on your lifespan), absolutely deserve the meager retirement they get.
There are so many ways the military can trim down without cutting pay, that to even consider retirement reduction is ridiculous.
