2025 and beyond schedule possibilities

Assuming the SEC goes to a 3-6 format three rivalry-week games will have to be determined.

These teams have set rivals:
Bama-Auburn
MSU-Ole Miss
Tenn-Vandy
UK-Loovl
UF-FSU
USCe-Clem
UGA-GT

That leaves:

A&M
Arky
LSU
Mizzou
OU
UT

Options:

Team Tradition
A&M-UT
LSU-Arky
OU-Mizzou

Returns the Golden Boot game to Arky. Returns the A&M game to TG week. Pairs OU with Big8 chum Mizzou

Team Interesting
A&M-UT
LSU-OU
Arky-Mizzou

Returns A&M game to TG week. Pairs two power programs with LSU/OU. Continues the nascent rivalry brewing between UM/UA (it's actually becoming quite heated with Mizzou beating Arky more often than not).

Team Dark Horse
A&M-LSU
Mizzou-OU
UT-Arky

A&M game becomes mid-season affair. Big8 foes reunite. UT gets historic rival for rivalry week. A&M keeps the Bengals as its year-ender.

Of these three, I'd prolly prefer Team Tradition.

3. Team Interesting
2. Team Dark Horse
1. Team Tradition

How would you rank these options?

Is TX-ouSUX on that list anywhere. My eyes aren't great.

In my mind TX-ouSUX and TX-aggy are locked. I'd be fine with SWC arky revived.

Move over OUsux .... Arksux, too! Worse, IMO.

I vote NO on Ark in any annual "rivalry" game with Texas.

One annual "rivalry" game per team. Rotate all other teams so each team plays all other SEC teams at least once every two years. Not sure how that would work out but the scheduling wizards can figure it out.

The RRR is contractually obligated to be played at the Cotton Bowl on the second Saturday of October which eliminates that game from rivalry-week contention.

I thought I read that Texas and Tech signed a 10+ year deal to continue playing after Texas moved to the SEC. Did I imagine that or is that real? I don't see Tech on the future schedule beyond 2024.

I think I may not have been clear enough in my OP. I'm not asking which of these opponents are true rivals, sorta rivals, or just another CFB team. I'm merely trying to gauge which match-up is preferred for the final week of the regular season.

oh i see. i just don't care about rivalry week. and don't want someone to create one for us. Our two are ouSUX and aggy.

I want Texas to play OU, aggy, and Arkansas annually.
I want OU to play Texas, Mizzou, and whoever won the SEC last season annually.
I want aggy to play Texas, Arkansas, and LSU annually.

I don't care how the others are filled in.

I predict that within 5 years of joining the SEC, Texas will develop a new rivalry that will equal or surpass that of OU and aggy with…

LSU
For many reasons LSU will never get within spittin' distance of OU and A&M as a rival.
It can't really be a rivalry if it's not played annually and there's zero chance of that.

Bragging rights over tech exist in perpetuity so there's really nothing to be gained by playing them other than making a couple state pols happy.

Not if we lose in November.

Agree. It would take 100 years of annually playing LSU (while simultaneously not playing aggy or OU) to get to where we are today.

I would love to play Tech every year instead of Rice, Prairie View, New Mexico State, The Citadel, etc. A loss doesn't hurt you, as long as you win (maybe even lose) the SEC conference title game. Also, Texas vs. A&M during Thanksgiving is the only time this game should be played. Every year. The way it was meant to be.

Why so disinterested in Arky?

The passion and history are there with Arky. Our third best rivalry. Kbbaker mentioned the BS games. This is not one of those. They will bring their best and we will need to vanquish them to get where we want to be.

Schedules can be adjusted. Do you consider aggy a rival? Haven't played them in a dozen years.

I'm 68 which is a helluva' lot longer than 12 years. Yes they're a rival. We've played LSU twice in the last 20. Their 3 annual will be Ark,Ole Miss, and either Alabama or the Aggies.
