2024 recruiting - Softball

This is a vast improvement over her 2022 Extra Innings ranking where she was ranked tied for 47th overall but 330 players were listed ahead of her. I’m sure signing with Texas helped in this new ranking position. In the 2023 ranking she is ranked as tied for 34th. The final list has not come out so not sure how many players will be listed ahead of her yet.

She's a good player. Their team is really good too. Although they can be a little much on the field--seen them play Bombers top team and they are not the classiest team but I don't think I saw her as one of them. Cat Osterman berated them from the other dugout it was so bad, and I've seen them one other time and it was just as bad. Hopefully she isn't one of those type kids. We have to right our culture on this team and adding a bad apple won't help. But the kid is an athletic kid with a sound aggressive swing.

So two so far, and typically they sign their LOI in November, which means that the pickings were slim for Texas for the 2024 class and Brister was a last minute offer.

Agreed. They missed A LOT in 2024 recruiting class to be honest. MUCH better this year in the 2025 class. Brister solid player but not a big scholarship player so I'm sure they worked their TX Resident financial magic with her and she's probably costing the program 20-30% of a scholarship AT MOST. With the ability to offer the $6K to every athlete they are already 25% of the way there, and there are several very good financial programs for families on the lower to mid side of the income bracket. She may grow into something. Worth the chance at low money.

I was at the Fall Ball game against A&M and when I asked the parents next to me who they were parents of, they answered Victoria Hunter. Then the woman in front of us turns around and asks, "Is your daughter on scholarship? Or part of one?"

It was a little awkward and the parents took a second and said, "Uhh, yeah. She is"

OH WOW!! That was very much a faux pas if there ever is one in that environment, or quite frankly in any other. EASY one if the kid is a full ride or high dollar scholarship kid. That question says alot about "the woman in front of you" smh.

The Hunters are very nice people. Encountered them a few times on the travel ball circuit. They are very much about their kiddo, but shouldn't we all be? And I do know that scholarship money wouldn't have impacted their decision. They are blessed to be in a position to send their kid there regardless of the scholarship offer if TX is going to give her a chance. Kid has A TON of power, but needs A LOT of development.

The Final Countdown! The 2024 Extra innings Elite 100 Player Rankings (Oct. 20, 2023)
Cambria Salmon P, Beaumont, California (not Texas Racer)
9 other players ranked ahead of her. She is considered one of the top 10 players in the Nation per Extra Innings Softball’s newest ranking!

T-4—Cambria Salmon, P, Athletics-Mercado 18U.
Cambria, who committed to the Univ. of Texas in October of 2022, has gone 38-4 (an .800 winning percentage) in her three years of varsity play at Beaumont (Calif.) High. Earlier this year the pitcher/hitter went 13-4 with 210 strikeouts in 129.1 innings, this following a 19-4 season in which all of her losses came by a 1-0 score. “Cam” was an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-American in 2022 when she struck out 309 versus just 16 walks in 160.3 innings. Her bread and butter pitch is a devasting riseball which looks even harder to hit when she mixes in effectively her change-up, drop curve and screwball.

In this final 2023 ranking Lien Brister ended up T-34th with 133 players ranked ahead of her. A huge improvement over the 330 ranked ahead of her in the 2022 ranking! Amazing what an offer and commitment to Texas will do for you!

As you can see EIS has 39 players listed in there top 10?? Go figure. And this goes on so they actually have over 350 players listed in there top 100? It does give the player a chance to say, "I am ranked #30 by EIS" even though over 100 players are listed ahead of you.
Schools with the most players Ranked in the EIS "Top Ten": LSU-5, Tenn-5, Okla-4, UCLA-3, Florida-3, and the others. I plan to make the same list for the 2025 class after the signing period has passed. Texas will definitely be doing better on that list!!

Having all those tied position rankings gives me "participation trophy" vibes. Everyone is a winner!

All these "ties" are crazy!! But happy to see Salmon holding her on. So I guess if we are looking for the Top 10 we stop at Top 3???? Top 14 if we go to the Top 4?? We have a much stronger 2025 class. Expect your next report in a year to be far more impressive for the Horns.

How’s this for your high school coach at your signing day with a Horns down!! Even if he’s an ou sucks alum! Coach Hat, yea Coach asshat!

A very nice interview with Cambria (she goes as Cam) Salmon! It is hard to find stuff on her. This girl does not do social media much at all! You need to scrub over to the 40:30 minute mark to get to her interview. A very vibrant, confident and well spoken young lady!

Cambria Salmon pictured during last season playing with her travel club, Athletics Mercado Academy. She is close to finishing her high school career and playing one more year of travel ball.

Cam Salmon is going to be fun to watch! That’s a lot of strikeouts and California is a big softball state. But to be fair she pitches almost every inning for her HS team. Her team is still in the playoffs and play Mater Dei, a California school known for putting out some great athletes, in the next round!

Cambria Salmon has finished her High School career at Beaumont HS, California. I wanted to look at some of her accomplishments during her time there.
Beaumont HS has an enrollment of over 3200 making them equivalent to a 6A school in Texas.
In her senior year they made it to the 3rd round of the California playoffs and were beaten by Mater Dei 9-3. Her Senior year she also led her team in BA - .427, HR's - 9, slugging percentage - .865, Runs - 22, and On base percentage - .505 and Cam led the state of Cal in strikeouts with 304. She ended up at #17 in the nation for strikeouts. She pretty much carried the team with her pitching AND her hitting.

A 10 to 1 ratio of Base on balls versu K's is pretty amazing!
Pitching stats:
GD Team ERA W-L W% App IP H R ER BB K's

It sure appears Coach White has recruited a ringer to come to Texas next year. She will be playing this summer with her Athletics/Mercado Academy travel team. It is almost impossible to find statistics on her travel club. I took the above stats from MaxPrep.

This is Mia Scott’s little sister, Gabby Scott! You may remember her on tv at the WCWS receiving the home run ball that Mia had hit! Glad she got signed, and Wichita State has a good program! Her and Mia look a lot alike! I did not realize she had commented back in April! Congratulations Gabby!

Speaking of Mia Scott... I was watching the LLSWS and (I wish I could remember which game it was), and while they were introducing the players, when the players were asked "Who is your favorite player?", one 12U player replied "Mia Scott"... I was half listening at the time. But the replied definitely work me up and then I started paying attention. I thought that was so cool. I was happy. I wonder if anyone else caught that? :hookem:
