2023 Recruiting - Football

Part of the TE recruiting is because our OL is so weak and slow that Sark frequently had two TEs lined up as wingbacks on the same side to block and/or trap. Much like DKR would beef them up and convert them to OTs and QBs to OGs.

247 reporting DE Anthony James II of Wylie East had a good visit to Texas last weekend, but they aren't sure if the staff will make him a priority.

Auburn appears to be his leader, and that's where he's visiting next.

Official visitors for this weekend:

QB, Arch Manning, Isidore Newman (New Orleans, LA)
WR, Jaquaize Pettaway, Houston Langham Creek
TE, Will Randle, Isidore Newman (New Orleans, LA)
DT, My'Keil Gardner, Liberty (Peoria, AZ)
DT, Sydir Mitchell, Bergen Catholic (Oradell, NJ)
DT/DE, Hunter Osborne, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, AL)
LB, Raul Aguirre, Whitewater (Fayetteville, GA)
CB, Malik Muhammad, Dallas South Oak Cliff
S, Jamel Johnson, Arlington Seguin
ATH, Mikal Harrison-Pilot, Temple

247 shows him as a LB at 264 pounds? LB for whom? Maybe the over 45 league. Writeup says edge. but I take it he's burning hell behind the line of scrimmage, because he sure as hell ain't chasing down any RBs in the Big XII

IT had a source tell them the visit for DL Terrance Green of Cypress Woods couldn't have gone any better.

He was scheduled to visit USC this weekend, but he decided to cancel.

His next official will be to Oregon next weekend, and they're in his Top 3 along with Michigan State and Texas.

Terrance Green, Cy Woods, Defensive Line

No one who is rational will argue about how weak our OL is. Hoping that the freshmen and/or the RS FR will alleviate that. I just dont buy the convert TE to OL. I think if we have a descent OL and if we found some receivers who can get open and catch like Worthy did then the OL gets helped by that alone. Last year, card and thompson were often on a 3 step drop and dodging the DL in the back field. With just a small improvement then Bijon and the QB/WR options just flip the switch. Hoping we have a vastly improved result this coming year. Its 2:52 and ou still sucks!!

Did anyone else see Peyton last night at the CWS? He was seated next to a guy that had UT gear on and threw up his Horns. I don't know that means a thing, but it was pretty cool

I hope so, too - but past experience says that linemen take time to develop fully. We'll see in the Fall.

I fear Sark not bringing in xfer OL after admitting OL was the weakest link and backups not stepping up = Strong not bringing in a xfer QB after the spring game declaration that Swoopes was not a satisfactory QB

Maybe. On the other hand, he just landed the best OL class in memory, and the best in the nation. Some of those players could be starting by the end of September, or earlier. Unless there was a sure fire “starter” transfer available, I’m not sure that the message he would be sending to the incoming studs would have been a good one.
