2023/2024 Season - RT Era Begins

Rice game was fine. Once again, turnovers were kind of the issue. I thought there were a few plays Rice finished that made us look weak underneath, but that's pretty much because Disu is recovering and we had a small ball lineup out there.

My thoughts on the Rice game. The #1 issue is turnovers. The Horns had 16 and the overwhelming majority were unforced and the result of sloppy ball handling. A few were the result of trying to make a sports center play rather than a solid play. They appear to be a very good three point shooting team, but we will have to see against better competition that can close out shooters better. They are going to need to hit threes because without Disu playing and playing at a high level, the inside scoring is going to be spotty. Shedrick can score some, and Onyema showed some improvement, but physical teams will be a problem. Defensively, Rice got to the middle of the lane and to the rim too easily on too many occasions. Some of that is because of the offense Rice runs (they do a very good job of running their screens) and a big man with superior passing ability from the high post. Much of it looked to be defensive communication. Not a horrible defensive performance but it could be better. We will know much more the next couple of games against Louisville (while not great should still be a step up) and assuming a win there, a big step up against UConn (most likely) or Indiana.

The bigs' defense could probably use some shoring up.

We'll be without Disu for quite a while.

Horns in a back and forth with Louisville. Lead by 3 at the under 4 tv timeout. The on the ball defense needs to improve. Louisville is getting to the rim very easily.

Here we are 17 games into the season and Texas is 1-5 against teams not named Rice, Houston Baptist or AMCC.

RT took over an elite final four caliber team and 12 months later we're here tied with WVU who is the only other one win conference team who got their one win against TEXAS.

Then after last night's debacle he goes ballistic on the sidelines against kids doing the horns down. Come on....he clearly isn't responding well to the pressure.

One of you sunshine pumpers bring me some positivity. At this point it seems like we might lose 10 more games and completely be left out of the tourney.

Where is Chop when you need him. And man after last night we REALLY need him.

On a separate note, ticket prices are also a good an indicator of success. Last year I couldn't go to a game because I didn't want to pay $150+ for tickets. Right now I can get $20 tix for decent seats to almost all games. It's amazing how quickly apathy can set back in.

At least we are back to being a football school.

I haven't watch a basketball game all year. I used to never miss a game on TV. RT is doing about what I expected.
